Thanks for the advice. I have hopefully solved the problem although I had to lift the tank to do it. The keyhole drain is a straight pipe to the back of the engine. The recess drain is another issue. The hole was blocked an inch from the recess hole. The routing of the pipe thru the tank is not straight and it was a mission to unblock it. I took the pipe off under the tank a had to use thin spring steel wire to work the crud loose and then blow it thru with water. The reason that you can’t use air to clear this pipe en situ is that it doesn’t vent behind the engine but goes via a complicated series of formed elbows into a beer can sized contraption behind the LH side cover. What this does I can only guess that it maybe forms a vacuum to drain the recess and this is not free flowing. That’s why blowing air down the drain will blow the pipe off the tank. The pipe to the beer can is now open but once connected is restricted. I still have try to see if the recess drains now but I suspect it only happens with the engine running…
