Fuel consumption and exhaust systems

A question to you knowing lot. what is the petrol consumption on average usage at sensable speeds as I will be using the beast regularly (380 miles) a week mostly motorways, also I want to loose the odd looking exhaust fitted and fit a 3 into 2 (one on each side) [looks more balanced look]. where can I get such an item in the uk. You comments please. :?:
 
Hi Leemo.

I get about 155 miles out of a full tank when I'm hooning about with no restraint. It goes up to about 175/180 when I'm at more constant speeds on the motorway. Just depends on how much right wrist you give it.

Be cautious of any mpg figures our American colleagues supply - remember their gallons are different sizes to ours.

I found no difference in consumption from the stock exhausts to when I went over to cat bypass and TOR's.

Im a bit new to this, can you explain cat bypass and TOR's in novice terms. ta... :?
 
Hi leemo The cat box is where the catalystic convertor is youll see a big square section like a collector box in front of the back wheel where the three exhaust pipes go..Take that off and fit a cat bypass for more power and a slight noise increase.The TORS are triumphs off road exhausts.These give you a bit more power if the bypass is fitted but are quite loud.Just ride the bike for now till you get use to it and do the mods in winter job done.
 
Sure thing Leemo. The original equipment includes a bloody great catalytic converter under the bike, where the three downpipes fit into, and the silencers come out the other end.

Most people junk the cat box, saving a huge amount of weight & liberating a bit more power, and change it for a cat by-pass. You can find these on e-bay......here's one

Next, aftermarket exhausts. Lots of choice out there. Triumphs own are called Triumph Off Road., hence TOR's.

I reckon your light coming on and running out completely are two different things.

My light comes on at about 130 when I've been playful (most of the time), but it's a matter of adjustment.

Next time, fill up with fuel as soon as the light comes on, and write down how many litres you put in. Subtract that from the fuel tank capacity, and you will know then how much fuel you have left in the tank when the pesky light comes on.
 
Should it be clarified that with a new exhaust you need to change the tune with Tuneboy or something? Are these mileage figures only with a change in pipes? And does the type of tune have more effect on mileage? I haven't had a chance to test the mileage with a new tune and a bypass but I used to get 35mpg around town and 40 when I'm cruising long distance.
 
I don't have a tuneboy. There's probably a law somewhere that I must not be allowed to meddle with one (I would assuredly mess it up).

Any exhaust /filter change I've made, I've done the Triumph 12 minute tune, and everything seems to be alright.

My mileage figures didn't change from standard pipes to TOR's with a cat bypass.

MPG cannot really be compared, due to the different sizes between US gallons & UK gallons - easier to state how many miles to a tankful of go-juice.

I have never seen any mot station test the emissions on the bike , do not think it comes into it .
