Hi all,
I have been working long and hard on my custom Rocket III project and to take a 2004 Rocket and turn it into something very different and unique. Check it out here (press ctrl at the same time as clicking so it doesnt lose this page for you)
Hello from New Zealand - 2004 Rocket III - Project Bike
One part of the project was to install new LED indicators front and rear...the rear was easy but the front mounting options not so much, and especially with the large 60mm forks!
IMO the standard mounts look dreadful and prevent using any aftermarket options. And with the added cost of having them taken from chrome to black I believed I could find a better option.
I started looking online and I could only find expensive CNC options and I was reluctant to opt for these as shipping time to NZ was lengthy and reduced my potential riding time now summer has arrived here in NZ!
Fortunately, I went to the local hardware/DIY store on the way home from work to pick up some screws for another project. I walked through the kitchen department and seen the door/cupboard handles on the wall and it got me thinking.
I found a nice set of Aluminium handles for $12 which I thought could be perfect for the way the new lights need to mount on the bike. It seemed too simple, but often the best ideas are.
So here are the photos of my conversion from cheap door handle, to very sturdy indicator mount.
I used a drill press to ensure I got the holes perfectly square and it took me approx 20 minutes all up to drill, cut, paint and install.
Cheap and easy.
Enjoy and I hope this is usful to someone else!!
