So, my wife and I are taking our first long(ish) road trip in August.

Our plan is to ride from Calgary, Alberta to Fernie, British Columbia (day one), then on to Sandpoint, Idaho (day two), then up to Osoyoos (day three), or maybe Penticton. We'll stay in the Okanagan for a couple of days then head on to Revelstoke, B.C., and the back home to Calgary.

We're both pretty excited about this trip. We've wanted to do one for a while and now that we have saddlebags, we can actually go.

We know Alberta and BC pretty well but we've never been to Idaho. Anyone have any recommendations for our short stint through that state? We'll be taking the 95/395 through Idaho. We've heard that Sandpoint is a nice stop but I'm open to suggestions.

We're going to wing it when it comes to motels/hotels/cabins/cardboard boxes so it should be an adventure.

Be very careful on Hiway 95 in Idaho. That hiway has had so many accidents on it that nobody counts anymore. A lot of left turn in front of cars/bikes, especially near the amusement park south of Sandpoint.

Saddlebags? Get a Bushtec trailer, you can take everything but the kitchen sink. Great for long trips. Actually you might even put in the kitchen sink:D

Enjoy your trip!

We were just there a couple weeks ago on the bike, great place to stay for a night or two. There is a pub/restaurant attached to the Best Western with a patio that is right on the water, great for a beer after a days ride :)

I am in Calgary too, we did a similar trip but went down to the spokane area, and back north. Watch your speed around Fernie, there were a lot of cops between the border and Fernie.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the tips guys! If we had more time - and we'll do this trip eventually - we'd do the Oregon coast. We did that trip from Seattle to San Francisco last year in a car and the whole time I was wishing we were on the bike. Next year!

Just did the Oregon coast was a great trip. Have fun and watch the cagers, one tried to run over me on I-5.
