Glad to hear you figured it out. It's driven me bat sh!t crazy. $409 is a cheap fix.

I hear ya man! It's not really a fix for me, but it works LOL! Definetly shocked and surprised by the amount of heat these headers are pushing out. I truly hope Viking exhaust creates a nice shield to fix the issue and make these headers what they should be.

Based off everything I have read in this post, as well as reading and discussing things with members, the fact of the matter is the R3 headers can get up to 700-800 degree's under normal riding conditions. This is why triumph put a heat shield on the headers.

My bike is custom tuned and brand new. There was nothing wrong with my bike before I put the headers on. It's fully serviced and running top quality motul oil.

The tall boots were the fastest way for me to solve the issue. I truly feel bad for the OP on this thread...he has spent lots of money on a problem that will NOT be fixed without heat shields.

Tall boots keep the heat off your leg BUT if you use cordura pants you have 2 choices when it really pi$$es down.

1) Leave them outside the Boots - They brush the pipes and melt onto them.
2) You tuck them in the boots and water runs inside the boots.

OK there is an option 3 - Add mini-chaps or add a heatproof layer (I used bulkhead heatshield)

I use these in Winter Chiruca-ICELAND 02 GORE-TEX - Caza Chiruca. Thank god footwear is cheaper in Spain.

Those are nice boots!
