I was running an errand today for my son-in-law Tom taking his Speed Triple forks to Monkey Moto in Argyle for a rebuild. We pulled his fork legs out on Sunday and they have ordered his new parts for them so I just needed to drop them off. While visiting their service desk I noted to the young gal they had a lot more Triumphs than in my visits past sitting in the used bike showroom and she said they are now an authorized Triumph Dealer. That's neat. I said looking at the inventory I could see they had a bit of everything but Rocket 3's. She then said they had them in their Triumph showroom and that they had an Evel Knievel edition over there and asked would I like to see it? Well that's the easiest decision I've been tasked to make in the last 65 years, so we went over to the showroom to take a gander. The new bike salesman then came over and suggested I sit on it. Silly me I did as suggested. Gotta say I liked it ALOT. The first thing I noticed was it felt like half the weight of my old '05 Rocket III when I centered it. I also didn't have a lot of weight on my knees which was appealing since I had to trade the old Rock in due to the pain it caused my knee joints. The seat was roomy as it was the GT version and the peg position was near perfect for my lard butt. The only real fly in the ointment was the price tag, they want a new car's worth of coin to own one. I may be overly tempted because I was thinking on my drive home what monthly payments I could live with. That's a bad sign. I might have to choose between getting a used Lexus LC500 or new Rocket 3 (both would require monthlies and I don't have any right now (I like not having any loan or mortgage payments)).
