Engine mounting bolt question

Hey ya'll....

I just got done fighting and wrestling with my new Rivco engine guard bars and finally came out on top :D . I guess I'm the guy who always gets engine guards that don't "quite" line up correctly, even after dutifully following enclosed instructions. Ended up having to use a second floor jack to "persuade" the left guard to line itself up with the 2 lower mounting bolt holes. Anyway, my main question is.....

...after installing the front engine mounting bolt, there's not a whole lot of thread showing on the bolt as it's screwed into the nut on the left side. I have it torqued at 32 ft pounds. Has anyone else installed a Rivco engine guard and does your bolt appear as mine; in the below link; regarding the absence of visible threads on the bolt?

Does the nut have enough "bite" on the threaded end of the bolt? I'm accustomed to having a little of the threaded part of the bolt sticking out of the nut...

Kindest regards,

Looks like it may be a nylon insert hex nut, in which case you are correct! There should be about 2 threads showing. What you could do is get some thread lock (medium strength or better) & apply some to the threads then torque the nut.

Maybe some of the other sharper Captains would have a better solution. I'm certain there is not a special bolt that long that comes 1/4" longer.

Good luck! See ya.

Don't feel bad about the engine guards not fitting properly. I had to take a die grinder to the lower mounting tabs. Typical Rivco manufacturing quality......not.

My engoine bolt is as yours is and it's been that way for 4 years now and it never came loose. I put a dab of 272 threadlocker on mine anyway.

Be certain to compair the styling of the bars. Rivco set looks more "square" I believe, where as the Triumph bars have a "more flowing" appearance in my opinion.

Sometimes the esthetics has to be weighed in.

See ya.
