I was doing general maintenance when I replaced the shroud over the air cleaner. The screw caught a wire sitting just to the front of the opening and I saw a spark. Immediately pulled wire open (four wires in bundle) finding damage to the red wire. Fixed the wire, checked others and bike started. When I went to ride, the engine light came on and I had almost no power at all, would die if given gas. When parked, It idled a little rough but fired right up when given throttle. I checked all fuses. the 30 had a dark spot on one post but was in tact, ( I replaced it) I then pulled all relays on the left side and one ( which was not on the end of the damaged wire) had considerable more resistance than the others. I'm waiting on a part in the mail. Am I safe or is it off to the Dealer. ( If I can find one, I'm in Indiana and the new dealer did'nt seem to know anything about the part I requested)

If you have a laptop with Tune ECU loaded and a proper cable (get one recommended by the TuneECU website), you can read what code was set off triggering the engine light and fix the problem. You need to do this in order to diagnose what has failed.

The quickest way to diagnose the issue if you don’t use TuneECU is to take the bike into a dealer. They may be clueless (they really don’t know what a relay is???) but at least should be able to plug you into the Triumph diagnostic tool and tell you why the engine light is on and maybe even if there is a problem.

Can you post a picture of the wire and area it was in? Not sure if you idea of air cleaner cover is the bear claw or the actual mesh cover for the air cleaner under the seat.

I believe its the wire for the auxiliary front lights. Thats the only thing i cant get to work on the bike. All other lights, horn, starter etc work

Good catch @warp9.9. I was thinking bear claw. If you had the filter out, is there any way something might have fallen into the intake, obstructing airflow..... rag, plastic bag, squirrel, etc?

Haven't tried it on the bike as I've always had Tune ECU for resetting codes, but on cars, if I don't have a OBD reader handy, it helps to totally disconnect the battery for a short period of time to reset the CEL. If it's a true code, it'll come back. If the sudden power draw from the short caused something to latch, taking power off everything for a short time will reset it. Unless it actually is a real hardware issue. Might give that a try too. Also which relay do you think is bad? Depending on what it controls, if you find a similar relay in a non-necessary function, you can temporarily swap them and see if the issue is corrected.
