Since the bungs are on the bottom it won't be long before you drug one off and destroy the sump pan. I would leave it the way it is. And don't forget to put the stone guard back on the filter.

It is SO easy to ground the sump on standard suspension - totally agree. Of course one COULD make up a 1/4" steel sump guard.

I understand perfectly the clearance problem and there is also another drain system out there kind of similar with a spring loaded valve to drain which I looked at, I made then a steel guard at that time to fit , but life got in the way and the project was shelved thinking now of resurrecting it ...maybe
