Driveshaft spline stripped

That's when I had it greased because of reading this elsewhere, at tire changes, perhaps that is why the Metzler mileage life sucks, it becomes a service interval opportunity for Triumph and a way out of warranty repairs.

Went to the Honda shop and bought 2 tubes of Moly 60
for $10.00 each.
that's cheaper and more moly , plus a higher % moly, than on e-bay for alot less money.
Every 10,000 miles seems to be about right to me.

On another note,
Your dealer should be able to get this fixed even out of warranty,
it didn't suddenly happen once it was out of warranty,
it's been chewing your splines for a long time.
So it should be fixed under warranty the way I see it,
because it was doing it (the chewing) while it was under warranty
and the dealer missed it...
Not your fault...

spline problems

Sounds like its a problem with the steel, perhaps not hard enough, or machined to close enough tolerances?
Hondas and other big bikes with shaft drive do not have these problems.

stripped shaft

I have never heard of one stripping before. I found an extra the other day (rear drive, shocks and wheel assy) on Craig's list. Glad now I haven't sold it.

There has been a number of badly worn splines, late bikes & roadster have improved
splines but you also need new hub to match.
I have changed mine for late hub & Warp got me a shaft to match it.

I've got spare driveshaft and diff assembly also .I will be hanging onto them for when this happens again, as i'm sure it will.. regular lubrication or not !!!!

Properly machined splines that move like a shock rod would move within a lubricated sealed housing should not be doing that. That's bizarre.
So you say it's the rear end of the shaft eh? I'll be taking the diff off when I put a tire on it this summer and let you know what I see in there. Maybe they put some kind of lube that dried out on the earlier years? I've heard some say they saw "dust" in the housing, like deteriorated grease.

Can't imagine that once you put that Honda Molly lube on them that you would ever have to touch them again ... but now I don't trust anything. ****, I've used the water proof grease from Mercruiser on everything I've been greasing for years (I had alot left over from the boat) and never seen anything like that. But I'll be checking fur-shur now boy-howdie!

Just got a phone call from Triumph Australia. They coming to the party, damaged driveshaft and diff spline will be replaced and fitted under warranty. Thanks to all for your assistance and advice , even Clint Eastwood for instuctions on how to put my bike into 1st gear.... ha ha !!!
