So it has been raining here on Cape Cod all day. I decided to get my Springer ready to sell after considering adding another bike (Diavel) to the corral. About every 5 years or so I go through the "I need a Harley" phase. I dont know why, because I usually have nothing but trouble with them. So the Springer needs an oil change and some tuning as well as some cleaning. I started with the oil change. Anyone here that does there own work knows how retarded the H-D oil system is and the idiotic way an oil change is done.

Now I haven't started this bike in a few months so I go to start it and of course it won't start. I have a Dellorto carb on it so I pull the float cover off and it is full of crap. I pull the carb apart and clean it, dump the fuel and clean the tanks. Just wasting time at this point. Hit the button and it fires up. about 3 seconds in the oil pressure rises and blows the oil tank cap off the tank and across my face over my shoulder and oil follows it. The bike is on the lift at the full height of the table so the oil went pretty high. I turn around to see my wife's Ninja, my sons ZX10 and my Rocket covered in oil. WTF? My youngest son is with me and he starts laughing and pointing to his bike that is untouched. He thinks this is hilarious.

So I make him start cleaning his brothers bike and I start cleaning my wife's bike. As some of you former H-D guys know the only way to correctly change the oil on one of these P.O.S. bikes is to run the bike to evacuate the old oil. It is idiotic. I have had several H-D bikes and I dont understand to this very day why they have this stone aged system. They need DRAIN PLUGS! And they need an oil system that doesn't allow that stupid pressure relief valve to get stuck when the bike sits for any length of time. The worst thing is I just replaced the screen in November after noticing oil in the breather. I should have sold it then, what a piece of crap. I hope this is the last H-D I buy for the rest of my life.

Thanks to my fellow Rocket riders for listening as I vent.

Indians don't have that problem :whitstling:

First day back after a few months. Its good to see some old friends. I had a few of my friends at my place for a ride last weekend. all H-D riders. I let them ride the Rocket but the had to let me ride their H-D bikes. A CVO Tour Glide and Dyna and an Electra Glide. My 5 year phase is over let me tell you. However I think I made a couple of Rocket converts. As I figured. Nice to see you guys. Been busy at work and riding this summer.

OH Ya. I still have that 89 Springer that oiled up my Rocket. I put it back in the trailer after that last story. Its for sale.

knew there was reason I have never owned a Hardly Ableson
tbh the one and only Harley I have owned never gave me an iota of trouble. The only thing needed is regular and frequent oil changes.
Do I want another? - erm no!. Well OK maybe a free original XR750.

:laugh:In my past life i worked at a Harley dealership in Nocal...enough to put me off the rattling iron beds for life. I just dont get this Harley thing at all and never will:rolleyes:
