Does anybody know how to check and adjust the valves to a motorcycle?

You nailed it, basically i wanted to learn because the Oklahoma dealers suck big time and i do not trust any of them with any of my ikes

Atlas Motorcycle which is now out of business, completely screwed up my Bonneville.That is why I learned how to do it myself. Waiting on shims suck but at least you know for sure that the jop was done right.

Yea Sonny, Absolutely! I just took a chance & got lucky - I met the tech that did the work & he is the head Triumph tech there & is so meticulous at his job that it takes him at least the full book time if not more to do a job (to make good $$$ a tech needs to do the job in half the book time) - so if I ever have anything else done, that I don't want to do (not likely) - I will make sure he is still there. he was the last time I checked back in late summer (Ryan Church is his name)
But yea, do everything you can or want to/have time to do on your own.
The custom re-paint I did woulda cost $4000-$5000 - This was just $275 so not worth my time

Getting back to checking valves, I posted this last year. It is a program that makes it easy to pick a proper valve shim size. It was made for the Bonneville line but should work for the Rocket too. I couldn't post the application but it is on Dinqua's website listed in this post. Triumph Valve Shim Calculator I've used the site many times and this particular valve shim tool. Windows doesn't seem to like the application but I never have any problems. Look for the "Valve Shim Calculator" article.

When you've opened the calculator, insert the desired clearance you want for intake or exhaust valves, then the measured thickness you have and the current sized shim already installed. The calculator will give you the shim size you need to achieve the desired clearance. Make sure you choose mm or inches in the "converter".
