Dodgey tyres used for the dodgey tyres recall?

Is it just me, but after 7000 kms with the recall replacement tyres on the Rocket III Touring, my bike is starting again to get similar slow speed shakes?

Has anybody else noticed this?

I took the bike to the dealers today but he was too busy to be able to do a confirmation test ride.

Tyre wear shows some flattening in the middle but no significant scalloping of the tread.

It would also appear that the front tyre will be bald before the rear tyre. Front tyres usual last twice the distance of back tyres.

Has anybody also noticed this?

Metzlers are performance tyres. Very sticky!

There are those that say keep the pressure up, and there are those that say more footprint means more miles. Im torn; between my current first Dunop Elite and a Metz on the front. I'm getting what I belive is great miles on this Dunop over my previous 13m on each of the past two Metz 880. Both Metz M880 got near the same (13m) and I ran varying pressures to acertain what was best. I'm nearing 13m on the Dunlop and I'm wondering IF I will get 26. I'm sure that's not so.

I got 8m on a rear M880 while others only got half that

Groover, it doesn't sound like you are from around where I am. Did the dealer use the Metzlers or something else? My first replacement was something else and it didn't last long at all. I still need about another month or so to see if the new ones start to have issues but will keep everyone posted if I need to have them changed again.

Think I mentioned it on the .com site but you need to check the headstock bearings for excessive freeplay. They have to be set for no freeplay and there is a shop manual specific procedure to do just that.

Excessive freeplay manifests itself in handling ills and irregular tire wear and it's a condition that needs to be checked once in a while.

I have been using those Tyrecheckers dust-cap monitors for watching the tyre pressure. I is a bit hard to see the Tyrechecker on the rear wheel easily but it seemed to show the slightest low pressure with me on hands and knees shining a torch.

Did the tyres with the accurate gauge and put 3 psi in the rear tyre up to the recommended pressure and the handling is much improved.

That small drop in pressure made a big difference to the feel of the bike.

and that's why i think the hundred bucks or so for the sensor caps and remote keyring monitor is a great investment.
