I had to take my bike out to the dealership this morning for a little bit of service and while I was there I asked the service guy helping me if he could check to see if there is an unrestricted tune for my '12 Roadster. He said he'd check but wasn't sure.

Now for the weird part. He said there was an unrestricted tune but he wouldn't put it on for me because he said that my bike didn't have upgraded air intakes and stuff on it. As far as I know, neither do the 13's and 14's coming out, but they are unrestricted. I really hate when you go to a dealership for your bike and they dont' seem to know the simple stuff most people on the forums are well aware of. NEver heard of the Eastern Beaver mod either.

He told me there is a "Urban" tune for my bike if I wanted it but couldn't install it because they only have 1 tech who is apparently the real certified triumph guy.

Has anyone heard of this "Urban" tune he's talking about? I was letting the guy know aobut how my bike idle hunts and he thought that would be a solution to fix it.

If you want, you can ride up to my place and I can help you out with tunes, I use TuneECU . I can let you know what tune you have in your bike and also put any Tuneecu tune into your bike that you want. If this is the dealer I think it is , they do not know much about anything that we discuss here. I do all my own work on my bikes and do not rely on dealers that overcharge and screw up. Mac

Thanks for your offer my kind friend! But I do have TuneECU as well with the cable and I have done the research on unrestricting, I am pretty sure I can handle it... but I wanted to test the dealers knowledge on the bikes and see how much they know or if they follow anything other then whats in the manual... nothing crazy.... but my previous Suzuki mechanics were involved in forums and other sites, thats how they tried keeping up with the latest and greatest news and updates for things.. but this time round it didn't look like the staff there did. Which is fine, I dont expect them to be involved but I would of for sure thought they'd know more about the unrestricted tunes because I've read others here have had their dealers do stuff like that.

I think what bothered me the most was that the service guy said that my bike can't have the unrestricted tune because "It didnt have the modified air intakes" to handle it... Im pretty sure the 13 and 14 bikes dont have updated air intakes and are unrestricted... what gives?

I asked a similar question at one of the dealerships here in western NY and got a similarly vague and incorrect answer. I wanted them to try the 2013 TORS tune on my bike (which at the time had TORS) and we gave it a shot, but it didn't work. I think I got a control sweep but the engine wouldn't even try to start. After that the dealership rep told me that the 2012 TORS tune is already unrestricted and has optimal fueling/timing on all gears. This is, of course, patently untrue. If you've found a tune that will "fix" gears 1-3 and suits your air/exhaust configuration you should feel a little kick in the a$s from your lower gears. It wasn't a massive change, but I definitely felt the more lively throttle on those gears after getting a better tune on my bike, even just with the TORs and stock air plenum.

Thats the dealer for you.

I guess so, but from what I've read from other members in the US and the UK they seem a lot more knowledgeable or at least have some stuff on hand that are familiar with these topics... In my area, there is only ONE Triumph dealership, probably in the entire Southern Province... So yeah It would be nice if they were able to at least know what they are talking about, or keep up to date with this stuff... I dont know about you but when I go to a dealership I like to talk to the mechanic and see if he is actually someone who knows their stuff, enjoys their work... instead of some joe schmoe who has used a wrench before and works as a bike mechanic for minimum wage and does the minimum possible to not get into trouble. That kind of stuff!

Just got a call back from my dealership regarding the tunes I was just speaking of. He tells me now that they dont have anything called an "Urban" tune which I thought sounded ridiculous, but that they did have unrestricted tunes for bikes that have had modifications to it like pipes or air intakes or something... Curious.. why not have a tune for people who don't have upgrades? The stock 13's and 14's arent different then the 12's for that kind of thing but have unrestricted tuning. Well at least I got my answer!
