Difficulty getting neutral

lI had that problem back when the bike was new, like 1olBull said it takes a little finesse.. i ended up getting the Rivco Heal toe Shifter that needed a little custom fitting with a dremel and some sandpaper to fit. They discontinued it but if you find one it was made well. Here is another manfacturer.. My knees are shot it also makes it easier to shift and mine shifts like butter,

This is the old Heal Toe Shifter by Rivco that they discontinued, they made the brass inner ring the same diameter of the shaft. With a little customizing it works fine. Very well made i couldn't understand why they didn't fix the poroblem..

I had the exact same issue you're describing at about 2000k and it eventually led to a snapped lifter shaft that I managed to get covered under warranty. You want to check the clutch free play and correct it. Once it is set, you should have no issue getting into neutral.
 

I also had trouble with the touring the neutral light had a short delay before coming on and at traffic lights the lights went green before I found neutral and often took off in 2nd or 3rd gear I fitted a Gi pro Gear position indicator problem solved.
 
Same problem when my Roadster was new, was just lock nut on adjuster at lever wasn't locked up tight from new, rattled loose and let adjuster screw work it's way in. Sitting at the lights on a new bike not being able to get neutral I saw the problem myself and fixed it.
 
You put it in neutral when stopped at a traffic light? I have never done that. I stay in first in case I need to suddenly get away from a cager.

I do the same thing but until I got the GPI I would look for the green neutral light then "snick" it into first instead of taking off in second gear by mistake .makes it easier for old guys like me!
 
Hello Buck, My new Touring had that issue and the dealer just told me that after a little clutch wear in it would be better. I don't know what his definition of a little wear in is, but at 4700 miles, the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) went out. After they replaced that, neutral is easy to find all the time now. I don't know if they adjusted the clutch cable or not but that seems easier to work now as well. Good luck and let us know how you overcome this issue.
 
I kinda liked the gear pattern on the the old Kawasaki triples (and others) with neutral at the bottom. Never had a problem missing 2nd gear. You just had to be mindfull not to drop down one to many when coming into a corner. I had a 70' Kaw 175 on/off road bike with the all up pattern. On the neutral switch it had another position that corresponded to first gear. Even had a wire connected to it. But it didn't go to anything, like they were about to add a first gear light then changed their mind. That would have been a good idea. I eventually added three more positions (4 speed trans) and connected them to a bank of numbered lights from an 8 track player that mounted nicely between the speedo and the handle bars. The first gear position indicator ? My first million at 14 years old ? Hell no, I'm still a broke *****ole man
 

Some of the Older Guys might remember early Royal Endfields (the British Ones) had a neutral selector on the gear box 60 years ago what a good idea (hint for the guys at Brinkley)
