Ride
2005 Triumph Rocket 3
Afternoon gents, I suspect that i have the Detent spring issue, but before opening her up i thought it worth getting a second opinion.

Basically, i can ride the bike fine - it doesn't pop out of any gears when riding (although admittedly i've only done a few local miles on her since this occurred) but when i stop, she wont shift up the gearbox from 1st gear, like its locked into that one gear. when i turn the bike off, THEN it'll let me change gear again (neutral very hard to find though). Does this sound like the Detent Spring has failed? i tried adjusting the clutch cable but that made no difference.

Any help/ thoughts would be welcome.

It sounds like its out of adjustment, detent spring would be falling out of gear, the adjustment range is small and must be close to 2 to 3 mm to find neutral smoothly, I would suggest looking at the adjustment again. If you could take a picture pulling cable away from adjusting knurl at top by lever we would know seeing the gap created by you pulling cable sheath away from that knurl adjuster.

Thanks for replying Kevin. I'll take another look this weekend, adjust it as per your photos, and let you know how I get on. Its just strange that its gone from being perfect, to all of a sudden not changing gear when stationary and engine on.

Thanks for your advice, and the photos above. I've adjusted my clutch cable now, and i'll take her for a spin tonight and see if this has made a difference. I'll let you know. Judging by how much my adjustment is out, it looks like the cable may have stretched some?

Bit of a late reply, but havent had the bike out for a bit.

UPDATE: I decided to replace my Clutch cable, as it looked a bit chewed up at the end anyway. So swapped for a new one, and set it up with minimum clearance, and ... touch wood... has been a lot better! Thanks for the help and advice guys!
