Decisions Decisions

I am about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA.

Welcome from Western NY! We're practically neighbors. I've got a 2012 Roadster and it's absolutely fantastic. I'm a little miffed about the 2013 model because it's got the first 3 gears tuned proper (instead of lower torque) and they blacked out a bunch of chrome that I'm going to have to pay to black out for my 2012.

I agree it's pretty lame that the stripes on the new model are stickers. I haven't ridden the other models but I love my roadster with a burning, consuming passion. My advice is go for it! Also if you want a chrome radiator shroud or bearclaw I'll be happy to trade you ;)

I am north of Pittsburg also, Where are you buying the Rocket? You will be happy with either model just depends if the red stripes and blacked out parts are worth the extra price of the 2013, Good luck and you will have fun.

I am from Chicora, PA which is about 12 miles north of Butler. If I would go with the 2012 what does it take to remove the low torque restriction for 1st to 3rd gear? Thanks

I ride up into the Finger Lakes area every year for a Triumph Rally. I really like it up that way! It is really beautiful country up there!:)

Welcome! I'm new here too Zman and don't have my Rocket yet but I'm learning a lot and having fun conversing with everyone. Great group of people.

Remapping the ECU (using TuneECU, TuneBoy, PowerCommander, etc.). You can get plenty of help here from the gurus to do that. You can also remove the secondaries altogether for better response on the low end. But if ya like the blacked out look with the restrictions already removed (not the secondaries though), go with the 2013. And even if ya don't like the black look, get the 2013 anyway and trade the black parts with Norseman.

A GIPro with ATRE will also remove the restrictions in the first three gears, although it might make your Roadster gear indicator constantly show 4th (or 5th). Anyone know if that's the case for sure?

Thanks for the info. That sucks that the stripes are just stickers. I know these are wide stripes but Triumph always hand painted their pin stripes which I thought was cool. They could have at least painted the stripes rather than puting stickers on. I am partial to Red actually so that is always an option too, but paint work has gotten so ridiculously expensive over the years but still an option. I am about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA.

There's a great dealership in Pa. from what I hear and they like test riders.

Nope. My R3R gear indicator works just fine with the GIPRO w ATRE on my 2011 R3R.

That is actually where I plan on purchasing a Roadster. I just have not made my decision on which to go with 2012 or 2013. I am leaning towards the 2013 just because I kinda like the matte finish a little better than the gloss black. I am curious though as to how you take care of a matte finish. I wouldn't thank that you would wax it but there has to be some type of protectant that you would apply to it.
