Dealer Servicing? How Crucial?

I am going to take my bike in for the first 500 mile service. After that change the oil at the end of every riding season and check the torque on the bolts myself.

WOW. I must be a complete nut. Been doing my own maintenance from the get go. Changing the oil is Done every 5,000 miles. Yes we know that it is not necessary but I am a creature of habit. Cables, clutch and throttle lubed every 15,000. Nuts and bolts checked every time we wash it (NO LEMON PLEDGE) Brakes checked every time we wash it. Valves checked at 20,000 (NO PROBLEMS) Front forks just got a makeover. Factory did not have them aligned right, (Wobble gone) Tune ECU used for diagnostic (NO PROBLEMS) ect, ect ect. WE RIDE A LOT.

Totally agree. I will be getting the service manual on the bike when I take delivery. Just called the Dealer today and they are going to deliver my Rocket the first week of April. They asked me to have them do the 500 mile service for the warranty. Other than that they are good with me maintaining it.

Does anybody know of a step-by-step instructional video or post on changing the fork springs? Or should I just shut up and follow the service manual? (I do not have the tool for this......any tricks to doing it without?)

Follow the service manual. Use the amount off CC fluid not the MM level. The trick to doing the job is having the tool.

FYI: USA law prohibits dealers from requiring the 500 mile service be done by them "for the warranty". You can do it yourself. Just document what you did and save the receipts.

Thanks. How do I get all the old fork oil out in order to replace it with the7W?

I took mine apart and dumped it out. Then pumped it many times to get out the rest. You have to take the 2 sections of the fork apart, so I don't think compressing with a strap would work. But I don't know for sure. Buy the tool it is only $40.

BTW: Replace your seals while you are in there.
