I have run into something strange and am hoping you guys havean answer so I dont have to ride the 200km to my dealer.
My 2016 Roadster is sometimes dead when I turn it on and push the starter.. no clicking... nothing. It always sweeps and does the usual ticks and hum with the idiot lights on and waiting when I turn the ignition on but the starter button is dead. I switch off the ignition and try again.. viola! always works the second or once third time. I checked and tightened the battery connections and it still does it but only maybe one in twenty starts. Sometimes the first start of the day when its cold and sometimes after I switch off to wait a few minutes for a fellow rider and the motor is hot. When it turns over it does so strongly so the battery sounds full of juice.
I fought this same thing for almost 2 years. Tried all the upgrade recommended here and still had the same sporadic problem.
Found my problem was inside the starter had a bit of burning and corrosion causing dead spots.
I rebuilt the starter and not a problem since.
eBay has rebuild kits for like 20 bucks, some guy in the U.K. But I stole the parts off a Toyota starter.
