Darkside Review ???

Hanso,
It's like a mis-informed tag-team, I lost track of why my name keeps coming up about crap I have no involvement in. And it's becoming hard to tell them apart, do they talk on the phone or are they in the same room?
I think you're right, too much time spent on multiple web sites on the same subject. Still, using my quotes and writing unrelated comments ... very odd, the insults are reminiscent of ghosts of x-mas past.
don't let it stress you, I have never claimed to know all as some would like to have others believe, but the "Dutch" in me won't let others get away with crap I'm still waiting for an answer about where Warpe got his wheel modified I made honest interested request but It would seem he is sore with me thats where I'm different if I met any of them I'd still have a beer with them (grudges are stress and stress has no f##kin place in my life) unforunitly he now has me wondering if the moddified wheel even exsists no pictures, only tyre pictures whopee I can find them in any mag if he was to share the info he might even convert me back to a bike tyre the reason I like the Darkside is as I have stated before I dont and even before the Rocket liked Metzlers and there is not much choice in bike tyres (Cobras had quality issues) and I had trouble even finding a supplier selling Bridgestones (solved) and I would like more feed back on them long term

You're right on with the wheel thing ... I actually was interested to hear answers to your questions since they are both 1" larger than stock. You would think that would be a hot topic ... if I were going to run tires like that on special made wheels, I'd be all over it.
I was asking a buddy who cuts wheels how to alter factory wheels to that, but he doesn't know how he did it. He said it wouldn't be cost effective to cut ring adapters that fit on the lip (I still don't understand how that works) and since it's a shaft drive it wouldn't be cost effective to cut wheels unless you have the machine and alot of time.
If only Triumph had chosen a different diameter in the first place, things would be much different ... I was hoping he would elaborate on them.
There are all kinds of bike tires that would be a better choice than darkside ... they just don't fit what we have. If I could buy a bike tire for half the price with better wet traction and deeper longer lasting tread that fit on a factory R3 rim ... CT's probably wouldn't even be an issue.

Spot on HellFire. Lack of choice for R3s makes it worse but I'd also say the whole design of MTs for big torquie cruisers seems to overlook to need for better tread and more rubber on the road both for handling and durability.

Surely the enemy here are the tire (or motorcycle??) manufacturers who, by providing such limited choice in MTs and showing no appreciation of the real needs of the market, are leaving riders with no option but to consider CTs.

My question remains whether a CT is a viable option. But the bigger issue seems to be that we would even consider it for everyday use.

Warpe I take it All back it's just that you seemed to ignore me when I was asking about where you were getting it done as I would like to see if it is viable to send from Australia and by the way that is one hell mother f#$king good looking wheel. I would have fun Hand polishing that, I'd start with 800 wet and dry and smooth the welds then work my way through three different grades of metal polish and finnish with Purple Polish it would come up like chrome :D:cool:

Ok warp9.9, Group buy on the rear wheel. Put me down for one.:D

hanso, what kind of finish would you use on the wheel. I tried to clear coat one years ago and it just would not stick. after one year it started to crack and flake.

just "Purple Polish" once a month will keep em looking like chrome, first time will take quiet bit of work about 3-4 hours per wheel after that once a month 15 min touch up polish will keep them looking good, Purple Polish leaves a thin protective film, I hate clear films they never stay on and one scratch or chip and yuck.
Cheers
Hans

why is this tire superior to the avon cobra ?? just asking no hidden agenda and while at it what choice of tires can warpe now has
and i agree if the thinking head at motorcycle head office could have gone to a different size rims there would not be a thread about CT

someone needs to get this mans # and post it here so that we all can "Stuart Wood, Chief Engineer at Triumph"
