Darkside Review ???

Just a thought for you, Kelly, since you seem prone to flamethrowing before most others here... Take a look at the intention of this thread as stated by the OP, i.e., "...putting together an evaluation of the Darkside...". He solicited the help of Oz based Darksiders to provide readily available study/test subjects, obviously because there are not alot of Darksiders around his environs.

The OP did not seem to be commissioning a one-sided car tire circle jerk, where the advocates of using such tires are to be held above any questioning, concerns or curiosity from the "nonbelievers" or, as is the case with me, from those concerned with any potential safety issues. Like it or not, there seems to be two very distinct sides to this coin and the opportunity to potentially have some credible analysis done and/or to have some new light shed on the subject, is a heartily welcomed one.

Rather than flinging the poo, let's just try to have a civil and respectful conversation on this highly controversial subject, without it degrading into a do-or-die, my-way-or- the-highway, pissing contest. Puhleeeease!

The main thing to keep in mind here is that no one really gives a chit which type of tire you choose to run (well, I don't give a crap, anyway). It's simply a choice and whomever does the choosing has to live with the results of their choice. If we ever find conclusive evidence to support one camp over the other, then, of course, all bets are off and let the poop land where it may.:D
Phil my "Flamethrowing" as you put it, is and has always been directed at the folks who post here for the sole purpose of "saving souls from the evils of the Darkside".
I haven't EVER had a bike with a car tire, I have no practical experience, I'm not totally sure I'm gonna take the plunge (probably am). I haven't posted anything that said I have used anything but bike tires on my rides .... I get into arguments with naysayers who attack the concept before I can get my info from the people I've asked the question of. I see the same individuals attack the people who attempt to answer my questions. I see them jump on others like me who ask similar questions and those that answer THEIR questions.
It's like watching the same train wreck over, and over, and over. The ones who will NEVER use or condone Darksiding are the ones who post the most on a thread they don't like in the first place. Some ONLY post on this Darkside forum and no where else. And they all say the same thing every-single-time.

You are irritated with me for getting into the same disagreement with you over the same issue? Well I wonder how that happened?
You want to defend Art and the "valuable" information he posted on this site that helped countless (literally) people? Wonderful, I'm sure he appreciates and reads it often.

I am curious about Darksiders, Darksiding, Darkside tires and the constructive info I get here on the subject, I'd like to see this particular thread go back where it was heading and for myself to be able to keep up with any updates and review results it accomplishes. This kind of thing is where I get my data to make my decision on what I'm going to do about my tires. I'd be willing to bet there are others, more polite and reserved than you or I, who might be looking for the same. Maybe we should allow them to get their info with out this Bull S#!t?

And I do remember the original topic of the tread .... It was asking for volunteers to donate Darkside equipped bikes for an evaluation, not a discussion nor debate. I also remember it was your response that evoked the reaction and took it off topic.

remember Jan 11 Kangaroo Valley (time to be set) be there and you can get first hand info maybe depending on conditions a ride on the Darkside:cool: also if you read my previous post you will see that I have indeed checked out the legalitys:bch:

I would like to thank each one of you for your input about darksiding. I respect the "opinions" of all and have learned much about car tires. I also appreciate the concerns of those that have had unfortunate experiences and l look forward to the results of the research.
I've made my decision thanks to all of you.

Ok !!! Back to the event !!!!!:kk:

Phil what people are trying to tell you is that 32 psi is not enough when you are leaning 1000 lbs up on the edge of the square tire ... something is going to give at those pressures. The sidewall is gonna flop over like a pancake and flatten out onto the ground.
I'm sure you've seen the youtube videos ... their tires stay up on the edge and don't flatten. There is no way, no way the tire in the video could ever scrape the sidewall ... not even if you tipped it over.

A fully inflated car tire has what ?.... a 40 degree angle on the sidewall to the ground? You can't lean a bike over that far, the only way it can touch is if it folds over.... and that is low pressure.

You do bring those little jabs on yourself ... the sidewall scuff thing needs to be retired.
There used to be a guy (you know who) that you could expect a negative comment everytime darkside was mentioned. Sorry, but you've kind of taken his place. Every one knows what you are going to say ... hence the jabs.

Don't get bent, I'm just trying to save you more poking.

Thanks for offering me salvation, Kelly.

I'll do the same for you. Find yourself some good anger management therapy and stick with it. Even you can become more mellow.

BTW, I find it hilarious that you could offer up such sage advice and counsel on Darksiding, as you did above, based upon zero practiical experience with it. That's rich!

Anywho, I do look forward to the article, if it ever gets written, Bear, and I also hope that my on topic comments in this thread help any who are looking for info on this subject.

Oh get over yourself already. I didn't offer any advice ... what are you trying to convince yourself of? Leave it alone.
