Anybody else feel like their riding at a 45 degree angle, while riding straight on a crowned road? I increased my tire pressure from 32 to 40lbs. and it seems better. I was riding Saturday with my wife in 25mph winds on a crowned road, and it just about wore me out. It got me to thinking about my 2500 mile trip coming up. Kinda wish I had an extra rear wheel, so that I could swap out between moto tire and Dark Side. Any suggestions on improving the ride? I haven't yet road two up with the extra tire pressure, maybe that will fix it.

weenie...

I notice occasionally but I really think the crosswind has more affect.
I probably am. The leaning didn't bother me so much, and it did seem to lessen when I bumped up the pressure, but like I said, I haven't tried it two up yet. I just don't want the wife to have to ride through Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah at a 45 degree angle:( I've noticed the leaning even without the wind, but it's no big deal by myself. I just want to get the quirks worked out before the trip, and hopefully stay "Dark Side". Don't really won't to go back to the paper thin Metz.:)

I just don't notice it so much anymore. I try to find a section of my lane that balances out the crown. For instance, on a 2 lane road with a pronounced crown in the middle, there is usually a smaller secondary crown in the middle your lane due to the tire tracks being depressed slightly by traffic. I will tend to ride mostly just barely to the left of the center of my lane but not all the way to the left tire track. This seems to balance out the crown from the center of the road. Like I said, I really don't notice it anymore.

snuff,
if you're thinking of going back, I would trust the avon way before the metz. get the same set-up Dave has.....:D

I just went dark 2 days ago I dont know if its me or not but I did not notice a whole lot of dif other than curves You just need to relearn a little but once your used to it its 2nd nature again. I did notice last nite in high winds that it did seem to lean alittle but it did that with the Metz also. I just look for the best spot in the lane and that usually takes care of the crown problem.
But so far totally satisfied with the change. My tire is the riken raptor

I have run into the same issues and I can vividly remember every location where it happens. I don't recall that it wore me out as much as it felt strange and I wondered if I didn't look peculiar. I have nearly 20k on my dark side and can only remember of 15 to 20 miles of road I was uncomfortable on. A small price to pay for the additional tire wear and overall comfort of having that much rubber on the road. I started with air pressures around 32 and have migrated to 40psi. Riding two up is better as all the issues of the dark tire seem to lessen as it is carrying more weight.

I've got about 4000 miles on it and I noticed it from the begining. I don't have very many two up miles on it though. I had gotten some what used to the leaning, my wife brought it to my attention.
