Darkside comments from Triumph INC???

gunshot and Molino thanks for the comments

ach maybe the goldwing down the rode but I am too excited about the rocket now that I have attached a 2 lb nitrous bottle (just in time for bike week) and got rid of the orange turn lights....god I can not stand the orange....

But thanks for the comments....man it went down to 25 degrees here last night...and thats cold for us!!!!! in Flagler Beach......cold for the horse too!!! dog too!!!!

Will miss Y at bike week...next time Y are down will have to get a lunch for the guys..last time we did not spend too much time as Y are a professional Rider!!!! Molino
talk about putting the miles on ......thats Y!!!!

So take care...as I am headed once again to Cleveland to see how the folks are doing a trip I would rather make in the summer...........

Only concern I would have with the darkside tire is the rear splines not getting lubed enough, though I have not heard any complaints over hear about that so I guess this is a non issue. I have one on my Valk and I take the rear tire off and lube the splines at 10 thousand miles, just like it would get done if I needed a new moto tire.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah after looking at the schematic on bikebandit the rear flange on the rocket is alot different thant the valk. I don't see how there would be a problem.

Number 8 in the schematic here is what gives the valk fits.

And you need to keep it well lubed or it starts eating up the teeth on it.

Come on! Y know a tire is number one .....

I went the same way.. GL1800 Goldwing to Tiger to Rocket..
Personally I just didn't care for the Goldwing!! It's got no "soul" as a motorcycle and while it's a great bike for the most part, I never felt "right" riding it.. Personally the suspension was horrible, was never comfortable to me and didn't have any feeling of rideing a motorcycle.. I bought the Wing to ride two up with my wife, but after she got her own bike it didn't make sense to have a Wing..

Went to a Tiger w/ABS and LOVED it, best "commuter/fun" bike I've ever had... Had it on the track too and it performed pretty well for a non-track bike!! Problem was I could not get past the deafening blast of wind noise that was causing ringing in my ears.. My Daytona was quiet as a church mouse by comparison!! Since I could not get used to wearing earplugs my search continued..

I don't have to tell you that the Rocket III Touring does everything pretty well and is lots of fun to tinker with to boot!! I still feel like I'm riding a motorcycle and it certainly has a soul of it's own (unlike the Wing) !! It'll even keep sport bikes "in sight" on twisty mountain roads!! (your results may vary)

The one thing that Triumph, as well as other OEM's will void a warranty for is gthe addition of a sidecar and that's spelled out plainly in the owners manual and that has to do with imposed stress on the frame, not anything else.

Are you running a sidecar on your R3 or on a different rig? I'm just curious. I just installed a sidecar onto the R3 last week, but the warranty is already up, so no matter.

As for this darkside business ... it seems to depend on the dealer. My dealer has a fit everytime they see my bike because of the darkside tire. Then I hear that other dealers are installing the dang things for their customers and quite happy to do it.

Weird.
