Darkside comments from Triumph INC???

No, not sure if you were making light of the previous comments. I haven't read my owners manual lately so I can't say this for sure, but...., it probably does say use only OEM recommended tires (meaning no car tires) and not to be used with a trailer hitch or to tow. From the manufacturers (and the dealer's as well) point of view it is a matter of liability...they don't want anything to do with it, they could conceivably get sued by any lawyer who took your case to make something out of it. It's not worth it to them to take the risk (dealers: in most cases, D&D Cycles is one of them).

But it has been mentioned that as far as voiding the warranty itself as long as the addition of the car tire or trailer hitch is not the cause of whatever is wrong with the bike (and that can be subjective depending on one's point of view...dealer usually wins) then it should be covered.

Lot's of guys have gone to the "dark side" I would imagine it is a risk they are willing to take to make their dollars stretch more as far as rear tire replacement goes especially with the limited choice(s) that are out there. I believe the common consensus among all of the darksiders is that the handling takes a little getting used to but after that initial phase is past most like it. Just don't expect the manufacturer to be gung ho about it. As Boogerdave said his dealer (mine as well...I think) said that the engine on the Rocket is the same size as the one in a inline four Ford Ranger implying I think (couldn't tell from BD's comment whether the last part was his comment or still part of the dealer's comment) that if you want to tow something get a truck.

Coming from the Gold Wing world previously, lot's of them have hitches to tow trailers and many have also gone to the "dark side" so it appears to be a matter if "you" want to accept the risk or not then do what you will.

I have installed recovery hooks on the front forks and plan on skidding logs. There is nothing in the manual that says I can't skid logs. It has a much larger engine than my Kuboda. :D

They cannot void your warranty. They can only elect to not pay for a claim provided the part you installed could be deemed contributory to the failure.

You replace back tire with something other than what is specified by Triumph.
Your cam chain/tensionor/knutston valve fails.
Provided you were up on your maintenance and no other mods that could be considered in line with that failure point.....triumph covers claim.

That's the Magnuseon Fergueson Act (or something like that). It was enacted to protect consumers on warranty claims. Like when you use Pissinit 15-40 motor oil instead of Autolite 15-40 in your Ford and the engine spins a bearing. So long as it has the proper lubrication, that's all that matters, not the brand. Me. I'd think that it shouldn't matter what tire is on the back so long as you don't ride it on the rim.

The one thing that Triumph, as well as other OEM's will void a warranty for is gthe addition of a sidecar and that's spelled out plainly in the owners manual and that has to do with imposed stress on the frame, not anything else.

Your Kuboda has no engine...You mean Kubota...Your Kubota is a weenie.:)

I was thinking of installing a 10000lb winch on the front of my Rocket and raising the front tyre pressure to 37psi, that is after I contact Triumph and make sure it is okay to do so.

If you put a 10,000 pound WENCH on your Rocket, you'd better contact Triumph as well. Somehow, I can't see Triumph honoring the warranty on the frame..........

Or maybe my Kuboda has da cold in it's weenie:confused:

...so long as it's not a snotty sneeze, you are good to go.

Why not goldwing?

Hey Mo----later in life I though the progression is to go from Rocket to goldwing...and yet you have gone the other way??? How about sharing why you went to a Rocket from a goldwing...the wife wants to know too?? we lov the rocket but never have been on a goldwing..........yea ney or otherwise???

Thanks...see y at Bike week??

I had three Goldwings FB. Why do people switch up to the
rocket.... :confused:After driving a motor home for a while you get the urge to crawl out on the hood again and ride a real motorcycle.

Freight, to answer your question, I won't be at Bike Week this year, I'm home on the first of March so theoretically I could make it but if I did I think my wife would make it the last bike week I go to with only 15 days stateside this time around...Ha!

As for going from the Gold Wing to the Rocket, I had both for awhile (see my photo album on this site) and I was proud to say at one time I had the best of both worlds (I already had owned a 2003 Blue Gold Wing, the 2006 Dark Red was my second), the best tourer (and it literally is and it's ungodly fast for a tourer) and the best "BIG" Bike.

When my wife had her cancer experience last year I was thinking of selling both bikes as I did not know what the financial ramifications would be. But it wasn't as bad as we thought so in the interest of having my own car (of choice) again and since my wife really doesn't ride with me very often the Gold Wing got chosen to be the trade in (along with my 2007 Ford Focus) so that I could get back into a Mustang GT (California Special model).

If I had the financial wherewithal to do so I would gladly have the Gold Wing as part of my riding experience and with the new one being built in Japan it may come with a larger engine...maybe and it may come into consideration at a later time. The reverse gear is very appreciated when backing out...especially on gravel, so who knows but I may have to make it to where I have only one bike at a time and for now it is the Rocket. I can be happy either way but the Rocket is the go to bike for now.
