Freight, to answer your question, I won't be at Bike Week this year, I'm home on the first of March so theoretically I could make it but if I did I think my wife would make it the last bike week I go to with only 15 days stateside this time around...Ha!
As for going from the Gold Wing to the Rocket, I had both for awhile (see my photo album on this site) and I was proud to say at one time I had the best of both worlds (I already had owned a 2003 Blue Gold Wing, the 2006 Dark Red was my second), the best tourer (and it literally is and it's ungodly fast for a tourer) and the best "BIG" Bike.
When my wife had her cancer experience last year I was thinking of selling both bikes as I did not know what the financial ramifications would be. But it wasn't as bad as we thought so in the interest of having my own car (of choice) again and since my wife really doesn't ride with me very often the Gold Wing got chosen to be the trade in (along with my 2007 Ford Focus) so that I could get back into a Mustang GT (California Special model).
If I had the financial wherewithal to do so I would gladly have the Gold Wing as part of my riding experience and with the new one being built in Japan it may come with a larger engine...maybe and it may come into consideration at a later time. The reverse gear is very appreciated when backing out...especially on gravel, so who knows but I may have to make it to where I have only one bike at a time and for now it is the Rocket. I can be happy either way but the Rocket is the go to bike for now.
