Corbin Beetle Bags & SuperTrapp 3-into-2 exhaust fitment

Has anyone tried to fit the Corbin Beetle Bags on a bike with a SuperTrapp 3-into-two exhaust system?

I measured clearance as close as I could before ordering the luggage, and now that I have received it, there may be some clearance problems.

Just measuring mounting clearance with a standard tape measure, it looks very close. I'll be lucky if I can get 1/2-inch clearance or less.

Any ideas?

re-mount the corbins higher? Mount a perforated S/S heat shield between the two?

Dont involve Corbin with it though , as I have read some pretty unimpressive customer service on this site regarding their treatment of some of our members

Would like to see pics of that exhaust too. Sounds like you might have picked up a used bike with pred pipes on it you lucky dog!

Just bought the bike a few months ago after looking at quite a few. It's got some nice farkels and was well cared-for by it's previous owner.

However, I had no luggage, and really no way to carry anything other than to bungee a small item to rear pillion seat.

I liked the Corbin luggage best, but they were pricey. But before I put in the purchase order, I measured the height of stock pipes on a new R3 and compared them with the SuperTrapp system on mine, but couldn't see any real difference in height.

Luggage arrived the other day, but before I can fit them up, I will need to remove small blinker lights that were installed on rear fender, which was why I posted to try to locate a license plate bracket to relocate lights.

In the mean time, I took a few measurements of location holes in bags and tried to compare them with location of mounting bolts on bike. I'll be lucky if I have any clearance between bags and highest point on exhaust pipe, because it is impossible to know how they will be positioned until I actually hold them in place.

I just wondered if anyone had experience with the same exhaust and same luggage.

looks liek a custom exhaust, compare it to the stock exhaust and you'll know, or just give it a try...

just make sure you have the clearances checked...

also see if you can rotate the pipes down any if need be, they might drop some in the clamps

If you have 1/2-inch, you can try some heat tape across the bottom of the bags... About $30 to try it... and if you have to change it periodically, so what. Just a fugile thought.

my advice is to get a new piece of pipe made to fit from headers to muffler via a new route hugging that chrome bracket the pillion peg is mounted to and lower the angle of the can, maintaining the stock exhaust can angle and placement, while youre at it.It would look way better too.Get rid of the original 'two pipe' heat shield that is still on there and make a new custom single pipe heat shield
