Cooling

I'd like to flush the cooling system... anyone advise appropriate steps?

The manual states:

1. Release the security screw, remove radiator cap
2. Detach bottom hose
3. Remove drain plug (item 1 in lower image)

My issue is that it looks to me like the image showing the drain plug looks to be a bolt to retain the water pump... I'm concerned that if I loosen it, it won't seal again.

Any help would be appreciated.

your right, it is the top bolt they are talking about...it has a metal crush washer...It didn't work great for me although i did remove it. But removing the lower radiator hose on the pump and radiator cap does the trick.

I have talked to a lot Triumph owners( not all of them TR3 0wners) in my travels who i've asked what anti-freeze they use and surprisingly quite a few recommended Honda Type 2. The anti-freeze threads are as bad as the oil threads. What caught my interest was the additives and 5 year -60,000 mile break down rate. If Blue -ice is so terrific why do they say change every 12 months. I'm still investigating this product.

The bolt with the crush washer above the thermostat is actually a vent that must be removed to completely fill the engine with coolant. If not done you will have an air lock and probably overheat the engine.

Following Wayne Trip's advice - I will be adding DEI Radiator Relief when I change over winter. Just a thought.

Unless you've already purchased it - speak to Wayne Tripp. He has tested Evans and many others. I asked him specifically and he sort of put me off the idea of Evans.

I'd be interested in hearing what Wayne had to say,this is what i mean about product reliability everyone claims their mouse trap is better. Honda Type 2 ...5 years 60K Evans ..Life time of the engine. Mobil antifreeze ?? who knows, Mobil has the the money for research and development. I guess it's a matter of rolling the dice..

So are you saying fill the radiator and bleed it like a brake line.
