Considering purchase of 2010 Roadster

Plan B

Let's say the available Roadsters at the moment aren't possible. Too costly, or too far away, or too many miles, etc.

Let's say a guy starts thinking about getting a standard or touring version, moving the pegs back, and doing a few other mods to make it less of a cruiser and more of a normally configured motorcycle.

Which years of the Rocket III would be most advisable? I know they have been improved/upgraded from time to time. Are there certain years that have more problems than others? Is there a certain year a really desireable improvement took place that makes that, and subsequent years, a better year for starting this search?

Thanks for any info,

Bob

Newer the better .. the later models had all the issues found on the earlier ones sorted. You're in the States i'm guessing .. if you're looking on Craigslist. Just know that the bikes that are for sale on Ebay that get advertised here are a steal compared to Australia.

I would guess that to be true, as well. So, when do the newer bikes have some definite improvement?
-- For example, with the Suzuki Savage (the bike I made a café racer from) you want a 1995 or later because the earlier versions only had a 4-speed transmission.
-- Up through 1999, the starter drive gears would break if the thing spit back during start sometimes.

Those are the kinds of year models you'd want to avoid.

I'd like to have something 2010 or newer, but what if I found a 2007 with only 5,000 miles on it ridden only by a little old lady in Pasadena? Do the 2007 models have any concerns?

Also, I am learning about different versions,... Standard, Classic, Roadster, Tourer, Touring. Some have way more horsepower than others,.. but with 2,300cc is that really much of a factor?

Anyway, it's fun learning about this behemoth, and I'm looking forward to living with one. Anyone want to buy an FJR-1300 in nearly new condition?

No Roadsters available anywhere. Where does a guy find one of these?

Dealer 12 miles from my house has a brand new Roadster on the floor. $14k I think? The sales guy there is salivating over it. Apparently they have to sit on the floor for so long before he can buy them...I snatched the last one out from under him with 5 days left on this wait period :D
