YEP SONNY another buddy just bought a new $30,000 bagger and he complains he can get up hills without downshifting and the Rocket flys bye in high gear with a twist of the throttle the ROCKET owners are spoiled with all the power that big 2300cc engine produces NOW my buddy wants me to help him get some more power out that HOG hes looking at the 120 R engine and all the other stuff that goes with it ends up about $14,000 more YIKES I told him forget just buy a ROCKET and have 2 bikes

HEY you know its funny the duke is hard to race from a dead stop as it wants to wheely and he cant control it so I beat him with my stock Rocket and he cant hang with the modded CARPENTER bike so thats the problem with the shorty high powered sport bikes

I've owned several K1300S, and up until I bought a ZX14R in October, they were my favorite bikes of all time.

But the ZX14R makes me ask BMDoubleWho?

The ZX14R whips the K1300S's ass in every category except technical gadgetry.

TPM, Shift Assist, heated grips, ... these all go to the Beemer. But those aren't the reason I ride. The shear visceral thrill of that 3rd gear 50 to 100 back road pass roll on is an order of magnitude more thrilling on the big Kawasaki.

Both bikes are comfortable and I could enjoy either. But I really do like the ZX14R best.

So yes...

Here is where I am at.



ROCKET (Set up like this minus the bags)

PROS:
  1. Power, speed, torque, smooth running engine and more power.
  2. Awesome looks.
  3. $5K cheaper than the Indian Dark Horse. 15K out the door with everything I want on it.
  4. Only needs a sissy bar, windshield, and some minimalist luggage to be everything I want it to be. (and possibly handlebar risers)
  5. No performance mods needed. I may do the intake, a ECU flash and some pipes in the future BUT I think this bike has balls to spare as is.
CONS:

  1. On first blush not the most comfortable riding position. I got to look into handlebar risers. Not sure if this is the bike I can do some touring on??
  2. Handling is a little weird at low speed...
  3. Got to make sure the wife can be comfortable on the back.



INDIAN CHIEF DARK HORSE (Set up like this minus the bags)

PROS

  1. Comfortable ride for me and the wife.
  2. Easy handling despite being big and heavy
  3. Awesome looks and style
  4. Possibly better resale value percentage.
CONS

  1. $5K more than the Rocket as shown
  2. Not sure if it has enough power to keep me not wanting a 2.3 liter motor.
  3. Possible heat issues in New Mexico Summers due to being air cooled???
  4. Need to add a $400 high flow air cleaner, $1000 in pipes and $500 in cams for it to preform at potential.
Thoughts ????

just where in N.M. might you be?lots of vtwins here in n.m.although slow heat dont bother them to much IMO maybe if stuck in traffic not moving and dont shut it dwn
 
go thru there quite a bit over to timberon.good friend in deming nice road up thru az rt 191 all they up to utah and beyond

YES I told him Ill let him ride my stock Rocket and I think he will trade the Harley for a ROCKET and have money leftover for whatever and he was really pissed off when the HOG got hot and started running on one cylinder he couldnt get up a hill with his wife on back LOL
 
they only make another 9 HP after you do the mods I have friends that have an INDIAN dealer Ill go by and get a Dyno sheet They want CARPENTER to modify one for them to see if they can get more power out of that pig of an engine I torture them with my stock ROCKET its like taking candy from a baby
