Clutch Parts Update

Gotta love 408/3/200amp service.

..............Just proves that you can make a silk purse from a sows ear........:)

I spent the day fiddling with my machines. Seems as though I have some electrical related problems. Sometime in the last week I got a HV spike that's played hell with my CNC as well as the frequency drives....

I'll get the books tomorrow. I was too engrossed today, trying to electrocute myself. You can instantly 'heat treat' a large flat blade screwdriver by accidentally bridging the T2-T3 legs without any apparent damage to anything other than your ego and the screwdriver blade, which, vanished into thin air. I still have the plastic handle. I believe I'll cross drill it and use it for a mallet.

I better add that the first sentence is about your new found skill, not my skill as an electrician....

Voltage

Well yes I know that feeling looking for what was causing one of our computers to

power fail on occasion, but the other 30 had no problem. Followed back to the 408

volt mains, oscilloscope probe in hand touched down hot and ground, was left a little

shaken holding a smoking melted down probe.

Never, never work around HV/HA load centers with both hands. Keep one in your pocket or somewhere other than next to the other one....I learned that the hard way. Using your tool-in-hand for an electrode is an eye opening experience.:)

Electricity is interesting. For all we use it, no one knows what it actually loos like, if it has any mass and interestingly, electron flow is on the outside of a conductor not in the middle. That's why a stranded conductor is capable of handling more amperage than a comparable solid conductor.

modified my clutch today seems to work ok.

changed from thrust bearing to ball race angle contact.

some lathe work required.

cost less than $100 .

no gasket on front cover, used silicone.

so far so good.
