chrome side covers

Not the part I'm thinking of, no, the side covers under the seat? Those are plastic panels. I believe those are the side panels being discussed.

If this thread is discussing some other side cover that is metal then electroplating is a possibility of course.

Yep, same panels. Mine are metal. I wonder if they changed them in a specific year or if it was a touring thing?

The Touring is quite different overall, especially the entire rear-end is completely different, so one can never assume that something in a non-Touring Rocket is applicable to the Touring. On the Touring, the side panels are plastic and pushed on from the side and not bolted on. The seat, meanwhile, gets bolted on instead of being easily removable. Not sure why they went that way but there you have it.

I knew they were push on, but didn't realize they'd made them plastic. I wonder if the molds are really any different other than the bolt clips on standards and plast pins on touring?

I'd say they're entirely different pieces. Different seat, different frame they attach to, different mounting points almost certainly and also a different shape. And plastic, of course.

Could you get them chrome wrapped?
My original thoughts on chrome side covers was **** the oe sidecovers are about 200 a piece ameican wonder how much more chrome ones would be. It seems that the only way for true chrome sidecovers would be a major investment of time and money. I have a side cover that kept falling off at speed and is scratched all to hell i tried sanding and painting(black spray paint) but it just kept getting worse. Anybody got any ideas. The thing about these bikes is aint nothing cheap on em huh?

Chrome plastic doesn't have to be a bad thing, it certainly weighs less than steel. The R3T is already 900 lbs. But of course, metal is always nice...
