Checking the oil

Heck I just heard from Sal who has his engine out of his bike for some tranny issues (No fourth gear) he has the engien upside down and pulled the sump to find out Triumph forgot to install the oil non return valve in his engine (its a 05 I believe) This also could make it very hard to check your oil unless your pretty quick about it

Yep Lupe and as soon as he sends me his address I will have a non return valve I had laying around in the mail to him!! He is doing pretty good on his engine IMO especially since its the first one he has pulled and split open.

They are right fire her up for a minute and then whilke sitting on her and holding her up right shut her off and check the oil.

Ok, fired her up for a minute and there's just enough to wet the dipstick, but a couple mm's shy of the low mark. I'm about to give up and leave her be - it's less than over flowing, I've added 2 quarts, and the low oil doesn't come on, so will assume all is well.

I love this bike, but am seeing there's a slight learning curve, coming off an Aprilia.

If it was my bike I would drain her and refill it with 6 quarts and then check it to see if it holds in the tank if it doesn't then there is a non return valve problem or a sump gasket out of alignment. It has to be going somewhere.

Being a Rocket newbie I'm fairly clueless; but it seems that I read that you have to put in five quarts, then run it, then add the additional amount needed. If you just put in six at once and crank it up; it'll start blowing it out?

Please beat me if I'm wrong!

For ****'s sake, does this thing have that many problems? This is going to be a pain in the ass, 140hp or not....

Yep, lots & lots of problems. I recommend selling it to me (cheap). You don't need this kind of aggravation.

This is True I was just referring to making sure it jas the right amount of ol in it first so one can then trouble shoot the problem The to possibilities listed above would take a hour or so to change, nothing major just either a gasket or taking the non return valve apart as it could have some trash in it holding it open. Or just replace it with a known good one. After the sump plate is off it takes about 35 seconds to change the valve out. I am not trying to scare anyone just pointing out what it could be. It could be it just did not have the right amount of oil in it from the start like stated above you cannot fit 6 quarts in the oil tank out right without it burping oil out at you, I will keep my thoughts to myself so as not to upset anyone
