But what is the difference between the metal in the stock pipes compared to what you use? What are your thoughts on coating the stock pipe?

Andrew, the stock header is Stainless, mine are Steel.
I've just rung H.P.C. (High Performance Coatings) No it makes no difference regarding the base metal.

Ceramic coating never holds up well every coated pipe I had needed recoating over time the stainless pipes hold up better

Mine are fine - 7 years and as good as new.

Ceramic over stainless works very well as stainless is a ****ty heat conductor. It builds hot spots. So it will get red hot at (for example) a gas joint and so becomes a radiator. Will take longer to cool. General cermic coating is exterior. It will lessen the perceived effects. If you can find somewhere that does interior coating then this will be stunning.

I do my own Ceramic work these days. Internal is sadly beyond my home resource budget.

I have heard - but have no 1st hand experience - that hot Aluminium coating prior to ceramic can improve life. Ages ago I had some pipes on a Laverda Hot-Aluminium sprayed and then blacked. Even in salt ridden UK winter road commuting - they never rusted.

HPC put an internal Ceramic heat barrier on with every external coat.

COATING over stainless is better as the stainless doesnt rust if some of coating lets go JET HOT is the best iIve seen and used but I like the bare stainless the best as it doesnt rust and be refinished easily and holds up great

After calling several local shops I found one that will coat the headers and exchange pipe (inside and out) for roughly $200. I didn't have exact measurements but he said his price was $17.50 per foot. He also said it would be a "forever coating" because it is stainless. As much as I would love to buy a completely new exhaust system, I'm frugal and still trying to raise kids and support a family.

Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do with the mufflers....

Just thought I would throw this out here....

Has anyone considered having their stock exhaust exchange pipe ceramic coated. We all know that the cats are in the mufflers on the R3T and since I have a completely stock system, performance isn't a big deal. If money was no object I would replace the entire system, but it is, so I am looking for a way to reduce the heat the exchange pipe puts off.

Also, anyone consider having the stock header and exchange pipe ceramic coated?

So you think I should skip the headers, I agree that they don't get that hot. I am sure that the heat I am feeling is coming from the exchange (mid?) pipe. Ceramic coating, inside and out, would have to help with that.
