Carpenter Sidewinder Exhaust Installation - Help Needed I think

First let me say I really have not seen a aftermarket pipe made by anyone that has good heat shielding. That being said I went that route.

So I've got the gaskets and the pipes are dry fit pretty well on hte bench. Tried them on the bike and everything sits well.

If the headers are mating ok to the Aluminum plate do i need to use silicon on that side? It wasn't easy getting them fit well so I worry that with the silicon in place it may not mate up well.

Love to get peoples thoughts as to if it is wise or needed to refit with silicon given things seem ok.

A little smear on those surfaces wouldnt hurt and if the Heat proof Silicon is still fresh and hasnt set it should make no difference to putting it together as the last thing you want is a air leak no matter how small or you will get backfiring and discolouration caused by a hot spot at point of leak

I would use permatex high heat copper color as you want no leaks pay attention to the cure time. You can trim the excess off after its cured. Remember the pipe will be under different road conditions some causing vibration the permatex stays pliable and does not crack. But hey I was slow so be like me and don't save yourself the time so you can spend more time later. :D

Selley's 401 Hi Temp Silicon adhesive is what my Triumph dealer put me onto and work great stay flexible and best of All it is clear so no coloured smears around the edges

Well .... I hadn't seen your replies and got bored so I threw things on :)
I added the Permatex to where the aluminum plate meets the inlets. That worked well. For the record the Kawaki H2 gasket worked the exact same as the stock. So if anyone needs a gasket and the triumph parts are out of stock I suggest the H2 ones.

Based on your advice (Warp and HansO) I'll probably take the header pipes off that plate and reinstall on the bike with the silicon. That said, the one you recommended, Hanso, seems interested since it is clear :). I might even be able to apply that to the joints without taking the pipe off .... I wonder if that will work? Or it might just be a pipe dream (I can't believe I just made that joke, please no-one laugh).

Anyways here is the picture of the new pipes on the bike. The polished steel looks great, there are a few kinks or dents that I am not overly impressed with based on the price, but noone will notice them except me. They did a great job of hugging the contour of the bike and being just a few mm off the engine. The pipe is also nicely forward and away from my leg. I haven't ridden yet but I expect it will be nice and cool on the leg.
