Over 400 triumphs, 41 R3s Real good turnout, didn't even get wet.

Yes I get what you mean . I jus always assumed , the shorter the pipe , the louder it sounded . Jus goes to prove that assumption is the mother of all **** ups !

Shorter may be true, I'm not sure, but a large open can will always be louder.
I have actually been in a few "Loudest Bike" competitions and the largest megaphone always wins.

LOOKS like someone ruined a perfectly good motorcycle

Maybe... Looks to me like someone may have taken a dropped/damaged Rocket and given it another lease on life rather than have it parted out.
I don't know the guy but it's reasonably popular over here to strip down damaged bikes and turn them into Streetfighters or Cafe Racers with cheaper parts, or left over parts from other projects.
I wouldn't strip my Classic to do it but I actually think it looks pretty cool, not for me but something different that's for sure!
