Over here these are revenue based pure and simple BUT they do not go on your driving record because they can't prove who was driving/riding the vehicle. Registered owner is responsible for the fine.
I would contest based on you were not the rider.

The more I learn about OZ government (too restrictive and oppressive), the more I realize I would not do well living there.
I also have gained a better understanding of why ya'll seem to hate the coppers so much. They appear to be revenue agents more than peace keepers.

That said, I still wish to visit some day as the Mates are AWESOME and the country beautiful.
I likely shall visit OZ only once because I surely will leave a trail of unpaid citations behind!
Hell, I get at least three stops every I travel on my motor over here.
 
Over here... If you are the registered owner you are responsible for the fine and demerit points unless you can prove it was not you driving /riding via someone else accepting the blame buy filling in the back of the ticket with their details and send it in so the ticket can be reissued.

As @Mittzy said, over here if you are the registered owner, you cop it, filled out a stat dec on the last camera fine one of my vehicles got stating I was at work and that I could prove it, and as the offence had occurred 3 weeks previously none of the possible drivers could remember being in that location at that time. Reply I got was, "if you cannot nominate a driver you get the fine and the points"
@Wrecka BUGGER, take heart mate if it was in SA you would be up for around $600
 
Wrecka shoot up to Gatton caravan park .. plenty of International Drivers licence holders living there ..while they pick vegetables (and get another 6 months on their tourist visas ) $100 is the going rate for a signed stat dec for a 2-4 pointer .. or so I'm told :rolleyes:
