Alpental, I would clean out the ports of all the crap, scrap it all back to clean alloy, fit the seals, as you say they have little tabs that will hold them in place, ensure that the sealing face on the manifold block is clean, it should be flat, then simply bolt it all up.
No sealant of any sort should be required.
The gaskets are copper so will crush to suit both face's.
As for where the pipes slip into the collector, I would put some Silicon sealant in the joint there as the silicone is flexible, you don't want anything that sets hard as vibrations will shatter it then it will leak.
These slip joints are never a great idea for sealing.
