Blown away by a sportbike in the twisties...

So, I know this is a cruiser, but it's also much, much more, so I guess my expectations are very high for its handling. Well today, while on my usual ride through the canyons, a sportbike appeared in my rear view mirror, seemingly out of nowhere. So, I signaled for him to go by me, but then figured I'd try to keep up with him for a bit. Well he blew me away! I could reel him in on the straightaways, but then there was a series of several turns in a row, and then he was gone. Cornering on his bike just seemed so effortless! Meanwhile, I'm manhandling the beast around the corners at a pretty good clip, but just nowhere as fast and easy as his bike. I must say, I was kinda bugged that he was able to leave me behind so easily. I'm sure part of it was that he was a better rider, but man I wish I could throw the rocket around like that. Maybe I need another bike for canyon carving! I definitely need to work on my riding skills.

Going from a naked sports Ducati to these mad machines I had to adapt riding style from just looking at where you want to end up to actually "driving" the bike. Loads of forward thinking, counter steer and loads of weight shifting on the pegs allows you to shuffle along quite nicely. With all that weight we will always have trouble changing direction ..... And stopping! I get lots of pleasure from this but I must say I will need to replace the foot peg scrapers soon cos like it or not these machines are not built to lean although the contour of the back tyre is spot on with little or no chicken strip to be seen on mine. Getting back on to my BMW Rockster I notice my riding has improved and I can get more out of it - just from being on the Rocket and having to spend time thinking about what I am doing and where the bike is going.

Glad I got a Rocket !

That is spot on! Those naked bikes and ****** rockets are like a point and shoot, auto focus camera, while the rocket is a manual camera, have to sert the aperture, shutter speed, focus the camers, ultimately leads to a better photograph and makes you a better photographer, I suppose.

Thanks mate. I was a bit concerned I may have been spouting crap! We should celebrate how technically difficult it is to ride a Rocket..... Like a rocket! Happy Christmas !

There is such a huge deficit in cornering capability between a Rocket and a Sportbike I would expect nothing else to happen. My Daytona is a "fat", old, "slow" sportbike and it will absolutely eat my rocket in corners without any sort of effort to do so. Literally take a certain turn here at 70 on the Rocket is hanging off peg dragging, edge of tire fun. Without even trying I can do that same turn at about 100 on the Daytona...

WE have no problem riding with the sportbikes no need to drag anything on public roads I ride with a group of sportbikes and all of them are race guys and the big Rocket does a fine job no need for me to ride a ****** Rocket and be uncomfortable all day
