Tried starting the Rocket on a cold evening and it simply wouldn't turn over. This is somewhat aggravating. I read a number of posts on the best battery and it seems that there are 2 general choices: Odyssey or Scorpion YTX20DHL. I don't want to do any mods to the battery/bike to get the battery to fit or lose my tool kit so I think I'll go with the Scorpion which apparently drops right in. However, before I do, wanted to make sure Captains are still finding this to be a reliable battery. Also interested in hearing whether there are better options out there.

mate I have no idea but like you would love to know the answer...anyone know the real answer?

I have an Odyssey PC625 in my bike. Battery fits straight into battery box but it is taller than stock battery. Can't have the plastic tool tray thingo under the seat anymore ... no biggie. Did a fair bit of research and although it's dearer a lot better battery. Got mine from Battery World .

I got the Scorpion about a month ago and figment was not an issue.
Came fully charged.
Dropped in, latched down, everything fit back together like it was made and fired up.
Started the bike with no problem at 25 deg.

Thank Tdragger!!!

..what year is your bike?..some of the older bikes like mine (an 06) have the infamous cold weather non-starting problems no matter what battery you use..I've had the Odyssey pc625..my brother in law now has it in his lawn mower..lol..I most recently bought lithium phosphorous battery (500 CCA) and still have problems..go with the Scorpion would be my recommendation..

Scorpion in the battery box plus a Lithium Ferrous battery in the air box 920 CCA and whether its i my 06 or 05 the starter will pull a 36 foot trailer.:D

haven't tried starting her below 7 degrees F maybe I will test her today. though I would never ride in that cold of weather so if she does not start at zero who cares!!!

I tried the Odyssey. it did fine for about a year.
Then went with the scorpion a couple of years ago.
I'd get the scorpion.
it seems to be better, doesn't touch the bottom lip,
it's a tight fit, but it does fit.

Your most welcome, Nolton.

Yep, the Scorp has been working well this winter.

After my recent dead battery  travails, I scoured the net for info on The Best Battery for our Rockets. This site agreed with others that:

1. The Scorpion was the best battery available, overall.
2. The Odyssey came in a close second.
3. The best place to buy it was batterystuff.com

I followed the sage advice provided by the genius Rocket Scientists on this site and my battery arrived 3 days after I placed the order on-line. I installed it last night (it was an easy drop-in direct replacement). My bike fired up, sounding stronger than ever.

One bonus with the Scorpion battery is the extra mounting posts on the sides, allowing for uncluttered terminals for all those farkles we're prone to add.;)

There's my two cents.:)

I have the heavy duty version of the stock battery that has 330 cca. Its sold by Interstate battery under their brand name. Very happy with it cranking is alot stronger now even in 25 degree weather. Went with it because it was local at a good price and I wanted it now.
