Been thinking about a new Rocket 3 Touring

Does it have to be a 14-16? There are older models available pretty cheaply too, often with good upgrades already done, e.g. Exhausts etc.

I picked up my R3T 08 a couple of years ago with Jardines pipes, power commander, and a bunch of extra bits for under $10k, and had only 16k miles.

I have the long haul seat, with the quick detach back rest. My wife is happy on it for 2-3 hours at a time. Longer with stops. Not seen an F6B, but it's pretty comfy and wide.
 
The rear seat on the Touring is a Gel seat and plenty wide enough for my usual pillion (wifey) but she is only a small women ,my Mate has a red FB6 and the rear seat is humungous and his paint is a gloss red almost Fire Engine red and that seat would suit a Sumo wrestler, almost too big for a smaller person,also the Rocket leaves the FB6 in the dust two up easily no comparison ,but the FB6 is surprisingly good in the twisties if you can stand the grinding from the pegs a nice bike but too much like a jet ski look a like for me ,we call our FB6 Mate George Jetson
 


Haha, I never thought of the f6b as a jet ski, but you're kind of right actually.
If your friends is glossy red, it must be a couple years earlier, cause the newer ones are flat white or flat gray. I think the blue is glossy. It doesn't matter, cause my next bike is gonna have ABS anyway.

Hello Eric and welcome from Virginia. I have just under 40,000 miles on my 2014. The only real issues I have had have been due to me riding in all weather and NOT properly cleaning the bike afterwards.
I kept the OEM seat but added the BeadRider atop it for all my warmer season riding. It made a big differance in keeping cool and improving circulation.
I have some simple highway pegs which work well for me, though I am a little shorter than you at 5'9".
Shortly after buying the bike, I got a chance to use the ABS at 85 mph. Two cars directly ahead of me collided and began spinning. The ABS brakes hauled me to a very controlled stop on the shoulder faster than I thought possible. Good call on ABS!
I hope you get your bike soon and be sure to show it off on the forum...
 


Hi boog, I'm glad the bike helped you stay safe in that situation. I won't go the F6B route just for the lack of abs alone.
I specifically asked if the Triumph premium seats had a bigger rear section that the stock seat. It's not critical, but I was wondering. I use an Airhawk occasionally with my Nomad.
I am trying to sell the Nomad before winter, but it prolly too late. So, I'll be waiting to sell it in the spring and see if I can find a leftover 2016 touring. Hopefully they'll give me the same incentives as they would on a new 2015 now. Triumph has a deal where you can get like $1000 or so towards accessories.

As for the pillion, my nephew is 6 feet if he's an inch, and he has sat back there cozy as a clam, while we ride all over the place. A dainty lady should fit no problem. And if she or she and you might be a little portly, well, I still think there's room. As big as I am I don't fill up the rider seat at all. Very roomy
 
The stock seat is a one piece front to rear where the long haul touring seat is actually two pads that you put together.

The stock pillion seat is 10" front to rear and 11" wide where the long haul touring pillion pad is 12" front to rear and 13" across the widest part. My wife says those couple of inches make a world of difference, especially when I put the dead animal (sheepskin) on it for her.

THE HONDA looks like a jet ski or a GIANT SCOOTER too much plastic and it doesnt have the power of the ROCKETS my buddy just traded his on a ROCKET and likes it much better
 
Buy the Rocket... you won't regret it. Bought my '15 in March and have about 2500 miles on it. Loving every minute of it!
Fast and powerful off the showroom floor. Cheap and easy to get an additional boost by remapping the ecu. a $20 cable will set you right
I am 5'11", 250lbs and the bike fits me almost perfect, except the windshield is a little short. Replacing that.
My butt does go numb after a couple hours. I am looking to replace the stock seat as well.
And +1 for ABS
My only complaint is the bike's sound... stock, it sounds like a Jetson's vehicle. Thinking of a slip on (TORS or D&D) to give it more of a growl.
