Battery disconnect question

Oka'y so I'm at a campground in Nowhere Swamp Louisiana...they have killer racoons here...and croc-a-gators and other molesting creatures so it's difficult to focus on changing the battery out when you're being attacked all the time...besides...my only tools are a hachet and hammer...now what do I have to do to modify the battery box? I figure I could just take the hachet and trim the fins on the battery (probably better than beating down inside the thing. I almost got it done but I think it would have been easier if I would have removed the seat first .

Actually, I'm going to wait until tomorrow when I have some light and it's not 40 below.

Being out in the middle of nowhere, I'd just trim the fins.

Didn't you determine that Triumph started with the battery box and built the bike around it?

It's the center, and everything is bolted to it.

Does anyone think that after 7 years Triumph would have upgraded the battery. Guess they really don't read these forums. Probably blame it on the manufacture. It just isn't big enough for a motor this big without compression releases.

If they read these forums they would have changed the rear shocks, wired the headlights around the ignition switch, designed it for a small CAR BATTERY, made the 7% power reduction switchable and found a new tire manufacturer.

Ray here...still out there wandering around....

I know it's been asked before but I don't get it...I'm getting ready to swap out batteries in my R3T (Odyssey PC625 for the OEM battery). On a previous post here I read that if you disconnect the battery the computer will keep the tune but lose the odometer....is that true?... all of the odometer readings? ....including the overall milage on the bike?
Somehow I just can't imagine losing the overall odometer reading...you can see the implications here.

Just looking for clarifications here and any OBTW's (Oh-By-The-Way's).

You could use jumpers to connect the new battery + to + then - to - on the battery terminals while the old bttery is still in the Rocket. Remove the old battery, install the new battery-remove the jumpers the Rocket never looses power.

Just fitted an Odyssey 625 into my '09 Standard yesterday. Was expecting drama and having to file down fins etc after reading the posts. Went straight in and the only thing i had to do was re-route the negative lead as it didn't reach the terminal. Have to check speedo/trip meter in the morning. By the way battery cost me $285 here in Oz.
