It appears that Triumph has dealers on a three week wait just to ORDER a water pump for my 2008 Rocket III..... Putting me into august before I can even ride.

i would go used first.
i would think that it would be pretty hard to build
you would have to get a seal and bearing.
if you post pics i could tell you they way i would do it (like what to press on and where so as not to break it.

By coincidence I just found a brand new OEM pump in Alaska.... likely the last one in the whole USA..... it is on the way tomorrow. I will liekly wish to try to rebuild this one though... I have access to a bearing press.. and if the bearing is fairly standard the remaining issue would be the inner seal. Looks like the previous owner had tried to seal the cover thinking it was the oring... the weep hole was leaking ... Pump looks great on the inside.
If you remove the old seal and bearing, call Motion Industries( used to be called Berry Bearings in the USA) They have all the cross reference charts to sell you the needed repair parts.
Pressing one apart is the easy step in the job. Most water pumps use a spring-loaded carbon on carbon face seal to separate the bearing from coolant. If you have never worked with this type of seal, read up on the procedure needed to install one successfully. They must be meticulously clean when installed, meaning even a fingerprint from what you think are clean hands is too much debris, or they will leak. Neoprene gloves and alcohol or electric parts spray cleaner are needed, and great care taken mid-process. Most repair shops cannot rebuild one successfully. Your chance of doing it in a home shop is small. If the R3 uses a conventional double or triple lip seal, then you may have a better chance of rebuilding one.

Thanks for the tips... I will attempt it after I get the new pump from Alaska and get the girl on the road this summer.... A man has to have priorities you know.,,

UPDATE: After installing the water pump I found in Alaska, I got a call from Baxter's who had also found one for me.... They are the NICEST people.... did not charge me a restocking fee and instead telling me to make sure I called them again for parts.... One thing down, .... 203, 406 things left to do.
