Anyone else want to protest helmet law?

I'm not arguing the law side of the issue. There is no helmet law where I live. If you feel so strongly about the issue, move to a different state.

Personally, I'm a Libertarian. I believe helmet laws make no more sense than do drug laws. As I said, there's no helmet law where I live. I still wear a helmet. If there were no drug laws, I somehow don't think I'd start doing meth.

Do you honestly believe that the majority of those who choose not to wear a helmet fall into the category of having no one who cares about them? If so, then I respectfully disagree. I feel they are just selfish.

That person we are talking about, the one that no one knew, was doing what he wanted to do. It is a shame of what happened. If some don't believe in fate that is their buisness. I'm sure that there are those that will believe that the accident was for others to learn from. It does make me think. I can't wear any more than a brain bucket. The wind is too much for my neck. If the law changed for me and could only wear DOT, I woulld buy a BIGGER WINDSHIELD.

If there were no drug laws, I somehow don't think I'd start doing meth.

Not wanting to go off topic, but if there were no anti drug laws a lot fewer people would be doing drugs. Just my humble opinion.

I do understand what HellFire and others are saying. I particularly resent being told that I have to wear a bloody helmet if I ride a push bike. I grew up riding all over my neighbourhood, to school, everywhere, and no-one wore helmets. Now as an adult I'm told I must - and I won't! Even had a cop stop me one day when I was riding with my kids and made me hop off.

Don't feel quite the same with motorbikes - mostly because it has always been so but also because I can see the increased risk and greater danger. If it were a matter of personal choice I'm sure I'd go without sometimes; same as I frequently do with other gear. However, I don't resent the law and in some ways am glad I have no choice as it saves me from myself (as it were).

it is funny to read these post on the 4th of july. what ever happened to freedom??? or free dumb. if you want to wear helmet wear it if not don't.. i do not think anyone wants to die in a mc crash but it happens. do you beleave in god ? because when you are called you have to answer the call. when your time is up you time is up. live your life how you want to. i love the NH state moto. LIVE FREE OR DIE happy 4th of july.the only true holiday in america.. :D

Amen, Allot of folks just don't get it? They need to call you a dumb ass or a fool if you do not think or act like they do, and it's all for your own good. I think you are stupid if you do not wear a helmet, I think everyone should be forced to wear a helmet....Blanket statements like the ones in this post, have no place in a free society. It's funny the same narrow minded people usually find a way to slam faith especially Christianity in the next breath. The only comfort in their weak fearful lives is to force everyone else into their insecure paranoid world. I have insurance, I ride without a helmet, when I want, it's my choice. It's not enough you are so scared you wear Kevlar underwear, and ballistic padding under your fully encapsulated body armor with matching hermetically sealed titanium gloves with built in heaters and your NASA surplus prototype environmentally controlled full face intrinsically safe with heads up display helmets? But you ride a 2300 cc 140 hp two wheel beast called Rocket III, yeah I know it's probably just because you ride it like the guys on cable going around the concrete circles at 200 mph, not cause your going to get a burger and a beer down the street! Me I am just going for a burger and a beer so lay off huh? I will probably pray to that majestical mystical entity you like to slam every chance you get before I eat as well. I guess you could always move to a country that has banned pocket knives so you can really feel safer? Last I checked we're still free in a few states anyway. Happy 4th.

Freedom to chose means just that. I ride with a helmet because I chose to increase my chances of survival in a get-off. And because I don't have a $50 brain I don't wear a $50 helmet. My first motorcycle accident of consequence happened in 1977 when I went over the hood of a Buick Electra 225 at 65 mph. My helmet didn't survive the impact, but I did. That helmet was a Bell $80 half-face. The left side of it was delaminated (crushed) from the impact. I had a broken collar bone, broken scapula, three broken ribs. The first thing that hit the pavement was my head. In 2009 I hit the pavement going maybe 20 mph riding my brother's 1998 Virago 1100. I wasn't wearing a helmet at that time and I now have titanium plates keeping my skull roughly in the correct shape. Like I said it's freedom to chose. That said I've got proof it can save an expensive trip to the hospital.

Thats right it's a choice and individual choice, because we can find fatalities caused by helmets and fatalities with out helmets(are the the results skewed to one side or the other probably but so what), just as we can find fatalities that could have been prevented in automobiles, with a helmet and neck collar. if only they had kevlar armored chest protection and a full face helmet when they were ejected thru the windshield? And we can go on and on and wrap our kids in bubble wrap and stay at home and never go out side when it rains because we may get struck by lightning. And we can stop climbing mountains, because people fall and owning guns, because people shoot people and we can just be scared all day every day all the time. My God ,were did we ever get this idea the Government is suppose to parent us from cradle to grave for our own good?

The thing about free societies is that we are free to make all the idiotic statements we please. Saying that
"people who don't wear helmets are stupid"
is just as narrow and mis-thought as saying
"well, it was his time, and there was nothing he could do about that."
Allow me to suggest that both statements are equally stupid.

Nobody should be forced to wear a helmet. Nobody should be forced to wear a seat belt. Nobody should be forced to do anything that does not directly infringe on the rights of others. But yes, if you don't wear a helmet, you're foolish.

It's funny the same narrow minded people usually find a way to slam faith especially Christianity in the next breath.

I was responding to the comment that if its your time to go then its your time. To me that implies that there is a greater power controlling your destiny. I absolutely disagree. I'm not slamming Christianity any more than I'm slamming Judaism, Islam, or Budhism. I do however think they're all mistaken. And if you only believe in one of the aforementioned faiths, how does that make me more narrow minded than yourself?

In my opinion its not about the way you ride. I have over 50 years and many hundreds of thousands of miles of riding experience and I suspect most on this board have similar experience. The issue isn't your riding style or ability, its everybody else on the road. The texting teen, the soccer mom, and all the rest of the non attentive motoring public that puts us at such risk.

I guess you could always move to a country that has banned pocket knives so you can really feel safer?

On the contrary. I believe in full access to firearms and other defensive weapons. I have a concealed carry permit, and never leave home unarmed. I believe that all rights are to be cherished. I just don't believe that taking unnecessary chances that jeopardizes the well being and happiness of one's family is worth taking so lightly.
