Last week I went for a 4 hr trip on the R3. I was washing the bike after and thought I saw traces of an oil leak but I was a bit too quick with the snow foam to investigate properly.
I headed out again yesterday and there's definitely oil coming from somewhere. I've read about leaks from the front but this seems to be coming from behind the alloy air intake towards the rear.
It's going to be a warranty problem but has anyone else had anything similar. I had it cleaned off again but pic 1 seems to be where it's coming from and it's dripping onto the area in pic 2
Mine was leaking from below where you're pointing. It's possible wind is making it travel up, but kinda doubt it. It's easy to check though (link below).
Just above your finger is a little clear rubber/plastic bulb that collects oil from the crankcase. It collects on the bottom of the plenum and travels to the right. You might locate that and see if anything is going on there- excessive oil or a leak in that bulb.
Finally, I'd suspect the valve cover gasket. I'd suggest a small mechanic's mirror and flashlight to check these three.
Found out my bike has been leaking oil. It's always "used oil" and I wonder if this could be where it's been going all along- seems likely. It's coming from the gear position sensor and is slow enough that it never drips beneath the bike and may only happen when the bike is running. If so, the...
