Another High Idle Scenario

If you have Tuneboy you can check your TPS yourself, hook it up and see if it maintains a steady value if it bounces around its toast. If it remains steady but value is off .Clear adaptives and reset it. At this point I will usually reload my tune as to kind of refesh it. It seems I wind up doing this about once a year. Not too big of a hassle but she has been running great.

Another reason I should not have sold my TuneBoy. Oh well, until the next group buy, Juggs lives just up the road a bit.

I asked the mechanic how long they should last and he said that they shouldnt go wrong at all.I havnt got Tuneboy because im rubbish with anything electrical and would do more damage than good.Ill stick to PC111.Im beginning to sway towards a speed triple.My mates had no problems with his.Nine of us going to Wales this weekend so i hope the Rocket dosnt embarras itself.Last time i went out in a group of us it was only the Triumphs that broke down.

Nick if your going to take it and stash it under the tank you might as well unplug it so you don't have to listen to it,

i have had my idle steper motor idjusted so it was inefective and had to listen to all of its grunting

any way i have started using it again

i found that a drop of gasget goo on the face between the tps and the injector stops it from moving and i have had a consistant voltage reading for about 6 months , so i started to unwind/wind ? the nut on the idle stepper untill it had a raised startup idle , did this about 3 times trying to get a low start up idle until i gave up and left it where it was (reving at 2000 for about 5/10 seconds)which seemed too high / long , but after about amonth it has settled down to about 2 seconds and is much better

while it was running at 2000 for the 5 seconds, if i put it in gear and rode off the revs would rise up to 2000 each time i slowed beneth that rpm as if the bike hadn't finished its startup cycle an was forever trying to sort it out untill i came to trafic lights and idled long enough for thr revs to drop naturaly , then it would be fine for the rest of the trip

so it was inportant to alow the revs to drop back to 850 at the start up or it would play up

i have allso found that if going down hill at under the 850rpm the bike trys to raise the idle speed to 850+ to compensate, a bit disconcerting untill you know that its just trying to not stall, witch could be much worse if you are in trafic

The only time Ive had problems with my TPS/IDLE is when it was really hot, and my TPS and engien was really gunky and dirty,

mine acted up in June in Oklahoma, and it was filthy from the long road trip and I was in stop and go traffic...

I cleaned the outside of it, wiped all the gunk off and such... and it was fine afterwards...




My point is, I wonder if its sensitive to the excessive heat? and the slow mountins riding with the engine brakign etc might have heated it more?

take a look and see if its covered in gunk, which would trap heat in even more so, like a blanket,

then again I could be wrong, its just what happened to mine it seems

ok dumb type question.... where is the tps located tried looking through manual and could not find it

your primary is on the front of the fuel rail.
The secondary (the one that goes bad) is on back of the fuel rail,
closest to the seat.

Beg to differ, xhdskip, the primary tps is the one that goes bad, and it is the one at the back near the seat

It is my primary tps which has failed twice. Secondary is still the original 2005 one.
