Personally I am not keen on the Triumph fuel gauge, nor the clock but I wanted a fuel gauge.
I've also got a Sprint ST 955i and was looking a the fuel gauge on that and wondered if I could use it on the rocket.
Got a fuel gauge off Flea-Bay for £8 including the postage and made my own pod from Aluminium tubing (Ok aluminum!!!)
Components are
1. Fuel gauge. £8.00. Ebay
2. 60mm diameter Ally tubing. £8.00. Ebay
3. 60mm p-clamp from boat chandlers. £1.46 Internet search.
4. Ally end cap. Scrap.
5. Wiring from a broken Triumph gauge. Free.
So less than £20 and some time, I got me a fuel gauge and it works. Full tank does show as full on the gauge. Just got to see the reading when the panic light comes.
I have a friend opposite my house who is into making steam engines and has a lathe, milling machine etc.
The ally tubing is cut to 80mm length. The inside was machined out a very small amount so the gauge was a push fit inside. An end cap was made that was a snap fit to the ally tube. Silicon grease was used to seal the joints and the cable exit. Could have used a grommet, but I'm just experimenting.
The ally was polished up using a mop and polish. Still not quite finished polishing, but wanted to see it work.
The wiring colour codes matched and a test was carried out after plugging into the Rocket's loom and it worked with the backlight coming on. I spent ages trying to find a way to mount it and found a stainless steel p-clamp with rubber sleeve from a boat chandlers. the clamp mounts to the bolts holding the front screen on and the screen doesn't have to be moved forwards at all or adjusted and I can still get to the ignition switch.
I also plan to fit the Sprint water temperature gauge to the other side, so I will have to use the Rivco switch relocation kit. I also want to fit an oil pressure gauge at the top of the screen.
