Does anyone know if these or others will fit under a Touring bearclaw?
The RamAir fits, but the back end of the foam just barely squeezes in between the tank and bearclaw cover at the third cylinder spot.

I do want to go the K&N route and those 2780's look about the best possible fit.
if you look closely you can see the # 1 K&N under the bear claw.

Hey Rick, everything i've ever read on this forum re: K&N is "the bigger, the better' as far as breathing goes. do you run it like that without a claw, or have you cut the claw out? Or do those fit under the claw?

With my RamAir I've cut the claw to expose it to more air.

I'm thinking if I switch to K&N I'll go with the bigger ones since they should have room with the cutout.
I also think I could use a 3/4" or so, hole saw to put a hole in the claw somewhere in the top-front area then install a PCV grommet, slip the AIT sensor thu & cap it with the 2780 filter so it sits right outside the claw in the same line of air with the T/B filters
Whata ya'll think?
I posted a pic of the bear claw installed on Starmanuts post.

Don't know about the touring but I do know I had a very similar problem with the bear claw pushing the foam and damaging it . I was going to stick a price of self adhesive foil to the contact patch on the filter but not sure if that would have worked ? I've gone with the KnNs and whatever issues they bring with them . We Rocket owners it seems , do love a fiddle ! ;)

I have already dismantled Tayas stainless steel tea strainer giving me a 3 inch diameter of very fine mesh . I'm on it ! Will let you know the results .
...oh i know what the result will be!!!...5 stiches under your right eye for pinching her tea strainer!!! but if it works then its worth the trouble right?

All this talk of the RamAir falling to bits is getting me worried. Mine is now 2 years old but looks fine. Now, should I swap for the K&N solution? But I like the bear claw in its entirety so would have to be the smaller ones - RU2780's??
I have had the RU-2780s on my R3R since spring of 2015 without an issue, the bear claw fits perfectly over the filters.

I too had Ramair on my 2014 Roadster. When ifitted it i over tightened the hose clips and broke one of the rubber collars that goes over the throttle bodies...under the hoseclip.
I eventually decided to go the k&n way and had my bearclaw cut away and purchased the RU2780's. I got my engineer friend to make aluminium inserts to fit the recess in the top of the filters and araldited them in after polishing them up.
They look and work just fine and because you can wash them and reuse them over and over they will last.

sounds to me like the k&n filters are the way to go over the ram air couple folks here said the ram air have come apart
But why just a few - incorrect or accidental exposure to solvents of any kind would not help.
Also using incorrect filter oil seems a likely cause as RamAir do NOT use regular K&N or Uni filter oil but a NON oil substance they sell in service kits.

With a lifetime guarantee to purchasers from RamAir , it is very likely a case of not following service instructions or exposure to contaminants. Otherwise make a claim.

This filter is designed to be inserted into a flexible hose such as a rubber or silicone intake pipe.

These filters have an aluminium ram-pipe neck and a cone shaped filter element. This integral cone channels all the incoming air, towards the inlet manifold, and in doing so, reduces unnecessary turbulence. These filters are also cone shaped because it enables easy fitting to space restricted engine compartments and with the extremely large amount of foam surface area an added boost of power to your engine too!

The filter is specially strengthened using a stainless steel internal mesh, which we have developed & used in european and world touring cars!

With its large size, technologically advanced filter and bell mouth alloy spun base this filter kit is capable of handling extremely large power & flow rates.
