Switch was made of plastic and some were melting causing rear brake failure. Harley Davidson did send out recall notices ( I received One) to bring the bike in and replace switch with a metal one. Not sure how many bikes this affected or what years but mine was on the list. Most after market exhaust systems relieved this problem. Not sure if this is the recall he is referring too.

It's really a shame Triumph hasn't stepped up and made a true, fully equipped, touring motorcycle on the R3 platform. The R3T is a great bike, but all it has is hard bags and a windshield. No cruise (correct me if i'm wrong on that). No heated grips/seats. No trunk. But the powerplant is such an awesome foundation for a touring bike. I went on a 4000 mile road trip a few weeks ago on the R3R. While a very capable platform for such a ride, 600-800 mile days had me thinking about things like cruise. Better wind protection. Large, secure storage. Heated grips and seat on a day when I rode in the rain for several hundred miles. And maybe some floorboards rather than pegs. And a nice sound system rather than a headset and phone. I also have a 100 mile round trip commute and am also thinking some of the same features would be nice there as well.

I've been test riding several "touring cruisers" the last few weeks. So far I'm pretty impressed by the Roadmaster. Tons of luxury features. Amazingly nice handling for a bike even bigger than a R3R-it actually feels lighter. The engine power is no comparison for the R3, but-it's wrong to compare them. Two different bikes for different purposes. The Roadmaster is no muscle cruiser, but it's not terrible either. The power windshield is quite nice-run it down for hot days on slower roads. But with it up, on the highway it makes a nice, quiet bubble of air. And with the quick release trunk and fairing lowers, you can turn in into a "bagger" in about 10 minutes. I'm still vacillating-I love my R3R and would miss the performance...but as I get older and do longer rides (not to mention riding in below freezing weather) all those touring features of the RM are calling me. I'm thinking long days might end more relaxed and rested. And much like the R3, it is a unique bike that you don't see 30 of on a day of riding.

Check out a Honda F6B...has all the things you are looking for with a six cylinder 1832cc power plant. Torque and HP are not that far off from a stock R3T. I am considering one for long trips and keep my R3R for local and say up to 350-400 mile trips.

Indians are expensive compared to other makes and models. Kind of like Harley... service work, routine maintenance, and merchandise are expensive.

It wouldn't be yard to find another make and model bike with all the luxuries as the Roadmaster, better performance, better handling and still have a wad of cash in your pocket.

(I recently posted just about the same post word for word not long ago... you might be experiencing deja vu.)




I've read that the Honda F6B was a total flop. Honda didn't sell nearly what they expected. You can pick one up real cheap now ... the dealerships are flooded with them... going by what I've read.

The bike has no cruise control! What?

My riding buddy has a Red Honda FB6 and he loves it ,it is amost silent and super comfortable big luggage space and fantastic rider wind protection and from all accounts just like all Goldwings reliable as a Swiss watch
great sound system but it is a big bike to handle and no reverse gear ,a great touring bike ,but it is ugly like a jet ski and a nightmare to work on (if you ever have to) the other week we were having a bit of a sprint on the old Pacific Hwy from Berowra North a favourite for the sports bike and he was scraping on ever corner and wasn't even trying on the 1400 GTR and even my R3T was faster in Acceleration the GTR just walks away from it easy
but as a comfortable super reliable and reasonably priced big Touring bike it ticks all the boxes

Yup...working on it is a b*tch as lots of "tupperware" to remove. Luckily they don't break often. I am seriously considering one in addition to my Rocket Roadster as two bikes for two different purposes. And the Harley well, just continues rusting!
