Real clunky and not positive at all gear changes. Is it cos the engine is the wrong way up? The selector forks don't slide in the selector drum very well. In fact one looks quite worn.
Thanks for the tips. I'll make videos of the detent mechanism tomorrow. 5th is quite firm, it doesn't spin freely, I'll get video of that too along with clutch items warp mentioned. Was relieved when I saw the transmission wasn't totally banjaxed. The gear changes in your video seem so smooth, mine are lumpy and not a positive action
Yes was in place. I checked that when I first removed the clutch cover. Going to get video of detent mechanism tomorrow will be able to see spring then

Ya I just wanted you to check that so we can eliminate that as a cause. At least you'll be able to drop the shafts in and test the gears. And fork movement as long as you don't mess with the crank you will retain the timing. Just go at it easy.

That's great. Glad I won't have to loose the timing. I'll try to get pictures of all the dogs too. They don't look bad to me but this is the first-time looking at any :/
I think that 1st/4th (front) shift fork was too far rearward for some reason, and rubbed 4th, which gave you the shuddering in 4th.
It might also have been in the way of the middle fork moving 3rd/4th input forward when trying to engage 5th, making it hard to get into or stay in 5th.
What's the front end selector drum groove/ track like? Also the tit on the fork that sits into the track?
