2nd gear pops in and out

I have an '07 R3 with approx. 17K miles on it. A few thousand miles ago, I noticed it
would pop in and out of 2nd gear while accelerating (also, when downshifting into 2nd and then accelerating) - I thought I was not being aggressive enough with my shifting but apparently that wasn't the problem. It is happening more frequently now (no grinding or anything like that) -it just clunks out of 2nd and then back in.

It is still under warranty but I don't think the dealer has seen this before and I would appreciate any feedback that I can tell them before I leave it with them. I'm sure it is a major repair and I want to give them all the information I can before they tear it apart. The dealership has ridden it and is aware of the problem but I would feel more comfortable getting more info from this forum. thanks for any help

Tell them to call Triumph HQ and tell them what is happening and give them the engine number.

sounds like a shift fork/shift drum engagement issue.

I had the same issue a while back but I haven't seen it in a while. I think I ended up slamming the shifter down as hard ad I could and believe that took care of the problem then again it could have been the gps sensor none the less I hope you find a way to get it fixed

I believe Pigger was having that issue and it was addressed by Triumph during his rebuild earlier this year. It's all on engine serial number however. Your local dealer will need to contact Triumph Newman for arrangements.

2nd Grear

I am also having the same problem with 2nd gear.When I go faster it pops out of gear .I have a 2008 Rocket III touring and the dealer did drive it too and will take care of it under warrenty.I guess they have had this problem before cause he knew what I was talking about before he drove it.

It has to do with the engagement dog design on the second gear set. Mine was replaced as well even though I had no problems as was Piggers...I believe he did.

Again, either call Triumph, Newman or your local dealer and have your engine number and VIN (on the headstock) handy. The fix is predecated on engine/VIN number.

Remeber, not all dealers are created equal, some are less apt to be conducive to warranty work than others so you may have to 'shop around'.

2nd Grear pops out

Hey Guys I just wanted to give you a update on my 08 Rocket III touring 20,000 on it and I was having the problem with 2nd gear popping out of gear. Like I said the dealer has driven it already saidI can still ride it and to come back after riding season and will take care of it under Warranty.Well this passed weekend well riding some back roads by my house all the gears went out.The only gear that works now is 1st.All the gears will not stay in gear comes right out so called the dealer and they came by to pick up the bike to start working on the problem.I hope this help thanks TurnBoy/John

I'm surprised TurnBoy, the dealer at the first visit didn't take it right then. Was he perhaps putting you off until warranty work would be pursued later in the year It should have been no more than two work weeks to have had it done; including snail mailing parts.

No I don't think he was putting me off they are a bunch of good guys over at MCC in IL.They have the motor out and going to rip into it and order up some parts .I told them I need the bike for a trip I am taking on Friday Sept 18th so they said they will try hard to get her done for me.
